But Trump is (reportedly) bleeding a lot of young male support in recent months already, we're about to attack Iran and he's saying stuff like this which goes right to the heart of his second most enthusiastic base and their grievances with the world.

Idk if I qualify as young male support(I’m 37), but I have noticed a sharp increase in outward criticism of his policies both online and irl among men my age and younger.

This is how people like Nick Fuentes gain a foothold. They’re seemingly the only ones speaking to their concerns.

So glad you gave me the real words instead of the ones I seem to have heard with my ears…

Good! Your “affordability” is my lost equity.

Yeah,
I hope the GOP runs on that issue in November. It’s a sure winner…

For homeowners it sure is a winning issue. It's only a negative for deadbeat socialists like you.

I own a home too, but if you bought yours pre-COVID, you bought it during an entirely different housing market reality.

Besides, the only reason you don't own a home is because you didn't work very hard.

Ok...I don't care for the panic...but the gap in housing prices and income over the last 4 decades has been an issue. Owning a house is part of The American Dream.

Corporate Home Buyers and iBuyers driving up the housing prices is what really sucks.

So young men already felt like the left attacked them and now Trump is turning his back on them. Only going to cause them to become more extreme and more to drop out of society.

I think there is an earnest swath of young adult men who feel like corporations, media, government, female trends/culture are all against them. They've been portrayed as too lazy and too alpha, racist villains who get every benefit and dunces, etc. And I think a lot of those guys liked that Trump/Vance spoke to some of their concerns and not necessarily in a "you're a victim, poor thing" sort of way like the left does.

Yet, from Trump, they see H1B love, housing comments like this, obsession with solving international issues, etc.

It just seems like low hanging fruit to throw them some rhetorical bones and avoid stuff like this that'll reinforce their growing perception that they got Trump elected and then he moved on from them.

This is a message that will DESTROY the Republicans in November and could easily lead to Democrats taking the Senate and not just the House.

It's indeed frivolous to spend on an excessive number of subscriptions and Starbucks and so on, but these kids did the math. Saving on that is not going to put them in a house - not in the foreseeable future - because it would take so long, and inflation is such that they can't keep up, catch up, and get ahead.

We should remember, these younger people basically did what they were told would secure their future, much like Boomers and older generations with Social Security. The American Dream wasn't stolen by Boomers. It was stolen by DC and the billionaire class that rigged the game in conjunction with DC. A lot of the younger kids were told to code or go into the service economy and are now looking at probably getting replaced by AI. They will be just as angry and radicalized as the truck drivers who get replaced by autonomous vehicles, for example.

When you strip away the American Dream from people, they get radicalized and they begin looking for other solutions. That drives them toward socialism, communism, and violent extremism aimed at overturning a system they feel has betrayed them, because it has. Demoralization and destabilization have consequences.

Throughout history every generation did everything they could to assure the following generation had a better life.
That is until the Boomers.
They bought homes for $12 with their high paid unskilled factory job and have an F you attitude for every generation after.
Most selfish generation in history.

I got a thread brewing on this, brother.

Long-term, I don't know if there is hope for these guys if we keep polarizing society in the way that we have the past decade or so.

If this continues as they grow up, it will become a societal norm and expected by the next generation of males. That ain't going to be good for anybody.

What would your reaction be if he said “I want to tank the value of your home”

This is not a smart take whatsoever. Increasing affordability was one of the main things Trump ran on and people voted for

As a mid 30s male in DFW, I’d need to make about $200k to afford a decent home in a good area of town within 30 minute commute. Very few people fit that income demo and these housing prices are killing the middle class

I honestly feel like this administration realizes there isn’t much they can do to affect home affordability and had pivoted from lowering prices to maintaining equity because it’s much easier

It's a no win situation. If you want more in the marketplace, then prices would have to stagnate pissing off current homeowners and essentially stripping them of equity. If you keep the market appreciating, you keep new buyers out and any new construction becomes ripe for people like Black Stone to move in and buy ultimately stifling new inventory from being built in large amounts. Wages are not going to go up fast enough and lower interest rates get eaten up by the overall price of the asset. But screwing over existing owners with stagnant prices as a policy is not a good strategy eithet
