Pope Leo was not a surprise at all. Pope Francis and Pope Leo were very close. Pope Leo was the prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, a cardinal-bishop and served on the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State.

He was not the favorite, but he was very clearly in the top 5 discussion going into voting.

In that we are largely in agreement. But it would be disingenuous to say that Leo shouldn't comment. He's not exactly like the leader of the Southern Baptists, his influence and position crosses national lines. But largely, Presidents have been deferential to Pope's in that they tend not to respond. Pope's are going to say this stuff. They are going to be troubled when people are dying and being killed and they are going to speak about it.....unless you are Pius XII who literally had guns pointed in his face and at the heads of his Archbishop throughout Europe during WWII

Fortunately for the people of the Eastern Bloc in Europe, John Paul II didn't stay out of it. He was critical of communism and worked with Reagan to pressure the USSR to bring down the iron curtain.

What's wrong with that Pope? Doesn't he know that Trump is god?

The Catholic Church in the modern era has many flaws

Catholics don’t know their bibles…

A pope and who he symbolizes to begin with is not biblical

The pope had been critical of our government without regard to the war Islam perpetuates on the world nonstop

Preachers or Christian leaders need to learn to stay out of politics

POTUS has completely different responsibilities than a preacher

In Islam however- they want both aligned

That’s why Islam is problem for the world

Why do people type like this now? Is it because Twitter bots have rotted their brain and made them forget how to properly type out their thoughts? It is annoying.

Yall have officially lost your minds

Trump attacks the church (by way of the Pope) and yall are celebrating it?

The pope called for peace and to stop killing innocent civilians. Trump didn’t like that so he attacks the Pope and yall side with Trump!

I didn't vote for this clown to run up debt, tankk the economy and start a new war and the MAGA voters who are honest with themselves and not becoming born-again neo-cons didn't vote for this, either.

I understand your POV. I said I "reluctantly" supported it in the beginning. Now, I just want it finished.

I think this issue has definitely split MAGA into multiple factiions.

First, the Pope isn’t meant to stay out of moral issues just because they touch politics.

Why was the pope, even if a different one, silent about Bill Clinton getting head in the Oval Office?

Why was the pope silent about Joe Biden showering with his daughter?

I could name morally bankrupt politicians for days that the pope chooses to stay silent about….

Seems to me the pope picks and chooses when he wants to inject himself into politics.

Again, Alex Jones was right claiming this idiot is losing his mind. Taking credit for the election of the Pope?? Come on man. He is going to go off the deep end like Al Gore and start claiming he invented the internet.

“Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise,” Trump said. “He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”

He is exactly right. People are extremely ignorant if they think an "American" pope was just a coincidence. I do believe, if in the shoes of the POTUS, I would have to have a serious talk with this clown Leo if he wished to remain pope while I tried to save America.

The Pope has urged world leaders to prioritize moral responsibility over military force, stating that "stability and peace are not built through mutual threats" but through "authentic and responsible dialogue". He has specifically called for diplomacy to "silence the weapons" and for a halt to the "machinery of death" in the region.

The Pope doesn’t understand how radical Islamists operate.

Ultimately, this is the problem.

America and Trump want peace through strength. He wants to pretend radical Islamists don’t want to kill every infidel.

I have news for him.

I do wish they would speak out against Islam and other false or heretical religions more than they do. Especially those that are doing the most harm to the world right now.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

The Catholic church, with all their misdeeds of late, and over multiple centuries, has abdicated whatever moral authority they may have once had. They are in no position to be critical of "heretics" or other religions.

I actually think Leo was chosen by the liberal Cardinals because of Trump's win as a way to "counter" him.

Not sure if Trump meant it that way but its likely true.

What are you talking about? Catholics know their bible and use it in every Mass.

This is directly from the bible. Christ gave Peter the keys to the church
