The parlementarian is going to remove that portion out of the act.

If this were an option, why not do it before now?

It's not budgetary. It shouldn't be allowed to be passed via reconciliation.

After the debacle in the LA Mayor’s race, I would hope the Senate would push this over the finish line.

They don’t want to push it. Because they steal elections just like the democrats. Rinos steal the primaries. Go look at the crazy numbers

Show me the numbers and I'll look at them.

“There is also a simpler, more political reality: the parliamentarian is a staff position. In practice, the majority can push for a change, and the Secretary of the Senate has the authority to appoint or remove the parliamentarian. That is rare and controversial, but it is part of why the office is influential without being untouchable.”

However, John Thune appointed Jackie Barber as Secretary of the Senate —- so I doubt she goes against his wishes

Wouldn’t this get hung up because it’s not revenue neutral (or whatever the reconciliation rule says)?

If the parliamentarian shut it down standalone, I doubt just attaching it to something else is an end around.

I think the Senate needs a parliamentarian-type position, because otherwise we would have SCOTUS deciding what is and isn’t able to be passed in reconciliation constantly. Thus, my suggestion is to pass a law making the Parliamentarian appointed by the SCOTUS at the beginning of each Congress (every two years). Only eligible for one term.

The parliamentarian is an advisory position. Thune does not have to accept her recommendations.

But she is correct on this. Just as she was when she denied that Obamacare was budgetary.

That one little unelected peon bureaucrat can even possibly derail something as important as this coming from POTUS is batshit crazy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right, but damn.

Why even have elections?

Google says we made it all the way to 1935 without a senate parliamentarian.

We can get by without one now.
