Extending the tax rates could cost about $4 trillion.

The same people that came up with this math are the ones that want to get rid of the penny.

Was the US GDP way up after 2017 with Trump? Less taxes and regulation is a known positive effect for GDP which means growing tax receipts overall.

Donny... your tariffs arent going to make a difference if you start a trade war.

Trade wars can go in one of two directions:

1. Both sides fight by raising tariffs.
2. Both sides fight by lowering tariffs.

Trump is shooting for number two by taking a trade negotiation disposition of reciprocity.

A negotiation disposition of reciprocity says to the trading partner, we are going to to follow your lead. Whatever you do will come back to you. You behave well you get rewarded with low tariffs. You behave poorly you get rewarded with high tariffs.

The other negotiation disposition is punitive. Trump is not using punitive tariffs extensively...only against China.

The first step is to begin a serious push for it and make Americans expect/demand a balanced budget. Bravo.

This is the part where we see "principled Republicans" cry about their pet government programs.

The only reason the budget was briefly balanced was an explosion in tax receipts due to the dot com boom. They did not cut spending. They slowed the rate of growth a bit but that was about it.

His tariff everyone, is just that.

Not only will exports go down, but domestic mfgs will raise prices because now they can.

Tariffs are a gift to these woke corporations MAGA pretends to hate.

Trumps tariffs might raise 3 trillion in 10 years. His tariffs will most likely cost more than that over 10 years.

And it wasn't even intentional. Tax revenues from the dot com bubble exceeded expectations.

Well the politicians may just find out that budgets matter. Now when people start pushing for representation for people in DC that is considered a job vs people there thinking it’s a platform for success then maybe the country can be saved. Say no to lobbyists!!

Trump is a very very misguided mercantilist. His belief that the US must have a positive trade balance is rooted in 1800s economics and ignore the modern economy.

Tariffs are Trumps hallmark, he's not backing off. He actually believes he can grow the economy on tariffs alone.

You and I both know that isnt true.

My math for what? You made a broad statement based on no fact nor specifics yet you want me to give you "the math" to dispute your lack of numbers?

Hmmmm...1800 economics were pretty damn good. That was during the log phase of the nation in terms of growth.

Trumps tariffs (at best) will raise 3-4T over 10 years.

Explain to me how this fixes anything.

What are the possible tradeoffs

Thanks.

Are you predicting a balanced budget? What year? This year might be sorta soon, so next year, right?

Go back to licking windows.

You answered your own question...3-4T over 10 years.

But you act like this administration is just focusing on tariffs. Haven't you noticed that he is working on cuts too? In fact that is the purpose of DOGE. To identify places to cut.

You don’t know that he believes that. He’s a deal maker, and the reciprocal tariffs are more than likely intended to reduce tariffs on exports moreso than increase tariff revenue. He’s highlighting a major problem with the USA through everything he is doing which is that Americans are paying an imbalanced share of almost everyone in the world’s economic gain. Whether it’s all the nonsense our federal government doles out or tariffs imposed, or the complete absence of defense spending by allies who hide behind big brother America. He’s shining a light on all of it and people are mad and they have a right to be. The federal government is a bloated, inefficient, dated piece of money guzzling garbage that employs the laziest and most complacent people in our ranks, and has grown way beyond what it was designed to be from politicians making bad decision after bad decision for decades. This is the reckoning we have all wanted.

A balanced budget should be the standard…we’re not asking them to do anything that is not asked of every family!!!
