Our lower wage earners are the ones who are hurt most by this invasion.

Meh, they were still streaming across, just not as fast as they are now

After "streaming across", were they flown and/or bussed deeper into America and hosted by the US taxpayer? Or were they flown and/or bussed back across the border?

That's the biggest difference.

Trump had a GOP Congress and didn't do it last time. When the rubber met the road he backed off and tried to work out the stupid Immigration bill with pennies for the Wall and Amnesty for illegals. Fortunately guys like DeSantis stood up to him.

Trump always loves to bluster but he didn't back up the big talk, he wanted to be liked and to make a deal. All he did was get fricked. Now you can't wait to sign up for Round 2 because THIS TIME it will be different!

God forbid we elect the guy that delivers on campaign promises and stood up to Fauci and Disney and other sacred cows and won.

The numbers of deported folks went down during the Trump years because the number of people crossing the border went down dramatically when Trump ended catch and release.

Trump was able to do some things, but his hands were tied on others. Remember how he tried to end the DACA EO and the courts shot him down? He tried to keep children with their parents together, but the courts killed that, too.

So, yes, deportations went down, just like border crossings went down. Trump could not increase deportations without help from Congress. It also is a waste of time to spend more resources on deportation while the border is wide open. Build the wall and then address the illegals in this country.

Illegal immigration, just like abortion and gun control is a reliable wedge issue that both sides use to stir up their constituents when voter enthusiasm wanes in pepetuity. Neither side wants to take this issue off the table with a permanent solution.

This explains why the Republicans give lip service to the issue, but never pass meaningful legislation to address it. They didn't even fund the wall they all pretended to support, even when they had majority in both the House and the Senate. They should have been a no brainer. Hell, we've sent 5x as much money to Ukraine as it would have taken to build the wall...

There are at least 30 million illegals in the interior. Most of those people were here the day Trump took office. A decrease of border crossers didn't decrease the supply of people needing to be deported.

Then he should explain why this time will be different. But he can't or won't because that would mean admitting that he failed in his first term.

Right, which is why Trump was elected to solve the problem. Not run on the problem again 8 years later.

I am pretty mad about it. I'm mad that he ran on this 8 years ago and didn't do it. And I'm mad that for some reason people don't care. Also mad that those same people are falling for his obvious lies.

I see Democrats as lying scumbags. You guys see Democrats as role models.

What are the odds that once again we'll be treated to another uncomfortable scene of Chuck Schumer up before the House forcing himself to cry, while attempting to recite excerpts from the platitudes written on the Statue of Liberty by a Socialist.

(Nothing more memorable or unsettling than watching a grown man forcing himself to cry in public for emotional appeal in a naive attempt to effect a political objective.)

Schumer and friends have only seen these illegals as little more than future mindless automatons voting Democrat.

Am sure Schumer and the others are salivating over today's report that 45,000 from central America or wherever who will be given work permits and other benefits to lessen their anxiety about being illegal here.

Of course none of it involving anything about the critical toss-up states for the future.

Doubt it ever happens. He followed through on a lot of things his first term but this wasn't one of them.

I mean im waiting to hear who you guys support that will do something about our border.

The wall would have been built if Biden didnt stop it.

And again, all we heard was how much a piece of shite Trump was for his treatment of illegals.

So which is it?

From your article...

quote:

But the large number of deportations promised has remained elusive, mostly due to resistance from state and local officials who have advanced “sanctuary” policies that limit cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

quote:

If granted a second term, Trump is likely to make arrests and removals of deportable noncitizens even more of a priority. On the other hand, if Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden wins, he will be under immense pressure to reverse the Trump policies and revert, at a minimum, to those in place at the end of the Obama administration, which protected the vast majority of unauthorized immigrants from arrest and removal.
