quote:I would be fascinated for you to link something saying foreign companies like Coke are forced to give away a controlling interest of their business just to operate in Russia.
You’re very simple minded. Those companies all have Russian business partners in their Russian joint venture. Coca-Cola, for example, has a large Russian food and beverage company as its Russian partner.
and then they do it.

Nah. I worked in Russia for almost 4 years and part of my job was assisting foreign banks to get established in Russia. The mandatory joint venure requirement was a significant roadblock because most Western banks didn’t want any Russian mafia types snooping in their bank data.
I have no interest in or reason to spend time looking up information for you that you could do yourself.

That’s one of Trump’s main objectives in his trade dispute with the Chinese.
That requirement allows Chinese theft of intellectual property rights of American companies which the Chinese then use to enhance their own manufacturing/production capabilities.
Does that news fascinate you?

China is a bit different at least for manufacturing. They'll subsidize the purchase of a product only if it's made there, so you have to build a factory and let government inspectors crawl all over your IP. We all know what happens next.
Eta: it's extremely common throughout Asia for the government to have a stake in a company.

quote:Im just trying to find something about what you said for Russia, that foreign companies give up a controlling interest in their business to operate there. its very interesting to me.
You’re obviously not aware that China has the same requirement for foreign businesses operating in China.
China has more than twice the population of Russia, and then a billion more on top of that. what someone will give up for access to those two markets will be very different.

quote:my point is those are literally the ONLY 3 hits for the phrase you gave me. i would have thought something so common, something that effects billions of dollars if not more for American companies, would be easy to find information on.
