President Donald Trump has publicly backed Flock Safety's controversial network of license plate-reading cameras, potentially putting him at odds with some of the most-vocal critics of the technology in Congress: fellow Republicans.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said the cameras help law enforcement, while acknowledging concerns about privacy and government surveillance.

"I sort of like them because of that, because of law enforcement," Trump said. "But some people don't. They think it's an infringement."

When a reporter responded that the cameras "help catch a lot of criminals," Trump replied: "But I like them."

The remarks represent Trump's clearest endorsement yet of Flock's rapidly expanding Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) network, which has been embraced by thousands of law enforcement agencies nationwide but has also sparked growing concerns among civil liberties advocates and lawmakers over privacy, data collection and surveillance.

Don’t like trumps stance on this. DeSantis will still never be President. And his fan boys are the reason. That and he can’t campaign worth a shite.

I swear Trump is taking unpopular positions on purpose at this point.

Seems like the most balanced comment on the subject I have seen. They have good and bad aspects.

Hear me out.

It's quite possible that the cameras are not the real problem in the same way the guns are not the real problem.

Anything in the hands of criminals, idiots or otherwise untrained people / people lacking morality and respect for laws will be a problem.

While I'd love to not have to think about cameras watching everything I do, I'm not particularly worried about it because nothing I do is illegal. What worries me more are the corrupt type of people that have access to some of these cameras and their intent with the information.

so we're at the point where a true conservative with a proven track record governing a large state will "never be president". what a sad reality we live in

if not Ron, then who else? who would be better than him?

I haven’t looked into it deeply, but I doubt the 4th Amendment will ever be applied to significantly limit the government’s right to use cameras in public spaces. So if we want to curtail/eliminate them, it’s up to us to elect lawmakers who will pass legislation to do so or at least executives who are against their use.

I agree if they can see inside someone’s vehicle. Outside of that, though, there is no expectation of privacy on public roads. So I’m not sure “dolt” is warranted. I’m sure they can see inside the vehicle…not sure how to get around that.

Just like red like runner cameras.

Texas took them down, flock needs to go as well.

He's a dolt on this subject as well as data centers and AI.
