Trump never really understood why he was reelected

2 years ago Trump had the opportunity to lock down the next 20-30 years of American conservative political dominance. Young voters, for the first time in decades, shifted hard to the right. He had a real chance to turn the United States back into a God-fearing, small government, socially conservative powerhouse.
Unfortunately, Trump never understood that, and frankly even if he had, I’m not sure he would’ve cared. He took that win as a total endorsement of his personal grievances and proceeded to squander the greatest political comeback in history.
Why did young people shift so drastically in 2024? The Democrats had proven themselves to be untrustworthy - on the economy, on foreign involvement, and transparency in government.
Here we sit 2 years later, looking an election with another seismic shift in younger voting, this time to the left. Why? Republicans proved themselves untrustworthy - on the economy, on foreign involvement, and transparency in government.
What a utter disappointment.

Now he's gonna work with the same people that will impeach his dumbass

Because it was always about stroking his ego

the media, judicial system and uniparty were never going to let that happen.

It's pretty simple, that was never the goal. It was all about staying out of jail and getting richer

No he didn't. The Senate still hasn't taken a recess. He can't even get all his people appointed.

This never happens in politics. The pendulum always swings back and forth. He just had his Obama in 2014 moment. There is no 20 year national stronghold for any side of the aisle.

Trump never gave a shite about conservatism or policy. He's always been in it for his ego and his bank account.

He understood. He was always just a zio-cuck.

I am surely disappointed in him, but this election was about the do nothing republicans. We gave them a mandate and they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with it. Their job was to wait him out so they could get back to business as usual. The establishment somehow thinks we as voters can't recognize this. This was a lot of people sitting out the election, not an endorsement of the radical left.

The GOP is largely to blame IMHO, because they should have realized early on that they would have to do the heavy lifting, because POTUS Trump's political effectiveness is limited by his own personality traits - Trump has none of the personality traits of a truly smooth and effective professional successful national politician. Not only that, but, Trump is totally unable to correct his own obvious deficiencies and weaknesses in that area.
The GOP was always going to have to help Trump maintain domestic popularity, but the GOP failed to do that.
Trump has always said that he's the greatest and nobody needs to help him be great and maybe that's true to some extent, but, to be a popular and effective POTUS for more than a couple of years is not easy. You need help from your party and you need to be a smooth operator when on the national stage.
Trump is a clumsy operator on the national stage. He routinely makes unforces errors in manners and speech.
But, the main reason for the loss is that the USA is trending Left and so voted for the Leftist Party. It's as simple as that.
It's going to be tough for the GOP to regain any kind of power. I'm not sure that they even want to. I think the GOP may even find it difficult to even find new candidates who want to hold public office as a Republican - I mean - who wants to be associated with losers like this?

There's a Bill O'Reilly interview, and I don't care for him, where he recalls going to a concert/sporting event with Trump and some ladies when they were younger. He noticed that Trump loved working the crowd, and in Bill's words "he just wanted to be a star". I don't think that's ever faded. Trump did or tried to do a lot of what he campaigned on. The US is better off for it. I'll take what we were given.

This was at a Paula Abdul/Color Me Badd concert in 1991 at the Meadowlands.

Trump 2.0 is exactly what naysayers said Trump 1.0 would be. The problem was Trump 1.0 was one of the best terms in POTUS history.

Trump is a tone deaf and lives in a bubble of worship:

I dont think Trump ever fully knew what he tapped into in 2015/2016. It was never about Trump himself, he was just a mouthpiece for a movement he didnt actually understand apparently. For whatever reason Trump just assumed his base would change on whim if he said something but it just doesnt work like that. If you run on prosecuting hilary clinton, you better fricking do it when it comes time. The issues people trusted Trump to take on were real, it isnt a game where you can just say "lol I wasnt actually serious about that" and expect your followers to just go along with it.

The problem is there is a non-insignificant part of the MAGA base that does. You see it here with the same handful of posters. It then gets amplified by MAGABarbiePatriot1776 faceless accounts on Twitter, and the host of Fox shows supporting it so they don't lose access.
What Trump fails to acknowledge is that isn't the everyday working class person's reality. Jim Bob wants to go to work and provide for his family. He doesn't give a shite about ball rooms or reflecting pools. What he does care about is paying for his groceries and putting gas in his truck. When he's been told Iran is 2 weeks away from a nuke for 20 years, and that the war was won 10 times already, but the price of gas is still high, it's very hard to convince him you aren't just another lying, scumbag politician.
2016 Trump actually did what he campaigned on, and focused on tangible ways to increase the quality of life for every day Americans.

Republicans proved themselves untrustworthy - on the economy, on foreign involvement, and transparency in government.
All you cultists might enjoy the taste of Kool-Aid but the next generation understands what the administration has done to the economy is not fake news and unaffordability is not a hoax.
Old Bonespurs is reaping what he sowed.
Suck it!

this is truly the most frustrating part about it. He had all of this momentum and proceeded to make confounding decision after another.

Part of the problem is that so many of these candidates built their entire identity around being handpicked by Trump. When he becomes unpopular, the flip side is that you’re married to him, and his stench is all over you. More of them should’ve had the balls to distance themselves from Trump and the war, but they’re too scared of his backlash. They wanted the benefit of his endorsement; but ended up holding all of the baggage

He showed the way to rebuild the New Deal Coalition under the GOP tent. No more overseas adventurism, fair trade instead of bad trade deals, and don't be insane on social issues.
Instead he started a war and couldn't make up his mind on trade negotiations.
Throw in his promises to expose Epstein's clients and underdelivering.
