Let's not forget, Elon has already said that if a republican stands in Trumps way of getting his agenda done that he will personally spend whatever it takes to primary them.

ETA: that would include not supporting his cabinet picks.

Matt may make a great AG. He cant be worse than Garland.

At least I cant call him a career politician anymore.

I think he's intelligent enough - look at what the very serious people have done to date.

But contrast him with say, Mike Davis, who is probably even more "extreme" than Gaetz in his intentions but has the knowledge and intellectual gravitas to wreck shop in a highly effective manner (Davis doesn't want the job).

But maybe it's win-win. Trump pulls Gaetz if he has to and has 2-3 other very capable people in the wings who will then be much more easily sailed through, or Gaetz becomes AG, half the DOJ purges itself, and our work is off to a great start before it begins.

Why?

Please give specifics why he shouldn’t be approved.

They'll be terrified to stand in Trump's way because of Elon's threats.

They don't have to do that. If they just let the recess appointments happen, Gaetz will resign his seat, then the Senate can refuse to confirm him. Kill shot. Gaetz is out of the House, and out at DOJ.

Becoming more and more clear - Hes after the swamp and that he really trust Florida republicans. He also knows those appointments guarantee a red replacement which is a win win.

What for 3 months before he’s re-elected in the provisional election in the district he just won by 50?

All that would accomplish is pissing Trump off.

There is going to be some opposition because Gaetz definitely has the weakest pedigree for the role (on paper) of any nominee I can remember.

Whether we care about that in 2024 anymore is a different conversation, but obviously there will be some congressional Rs who still think that way, especially about the AG spot.

No. If he's a recess appointment, it could be as long as a year before the Senate votes on his confirmation (and, I believe that simply running out the clock and not confirming him would be all that it would take). By that time, his replacement will have long been elected. If he takes the recess appointment, he resigns then. Can't be acting AG and a member of the House.

That could be true.

It doesn't answer my question on to Tboy at all, though.

Mike Davis is always on X talking about how he is going to be Viceroy AG and begin a reign of terror until the regular AG gets appointed.

My money is on Davis being the recess appointed AG, till they can get Gaetz thru the process. Davis and Grassley are close to one another.

I honestly think this is a perfect place for Gaetz. The DOJ is A MESS, and Gaetz made his career investigating them. But that confirmation is going to be an absolute fist fight because the Democrats and the John Thunes of this world hate Gaetz's guts. Plus I'll have to take the day off work bc Gaetz is quick on his feet and articulate, and it would be delicious to watch Adam Schiff "cross examine" him.

From my understanding, this resolution is still in place. The single senator’s ability to force a nomination back to committee seems to make it toothless anyway.
