Isn't it a pretty much insane amount of land the feds own in the western half of the country?

Think about it. You can thank east coast politicians from way back when making the laws for the western states. Still do to a large part. When's the last time we saw western states making policies for eastern states? Never.

That's exactly why we need the electoral college.

For a professed religious man, he doesn’t give a crap about Native American sacred grounds.

Or, we give BLM land to the other BLM, in 40 acre increments.

Agreed, but we can't just sell public lands to a bidder. IMO, most federal land west of the Mississippi (they own about 75-80%, btw) ought to be open to homesteading

Agreed

Yeah "potentially could" be used for pretty much anything

I didn't see where they had any reason to report 'use of offroad vehicles', sounds like it was for rustlin'

I'm surprised they didn't photoshop a dirt bike ramping one of the rock formations in the picture and caption it as the celebration of Trump.

I can deal with this. No one would be able to bitch, honestly.

I would. Give it back to the natives who they took it from would be better.

So the land got smaller? That's amazing. How did he make it all go away?

That is why, these aren't states, these are national land holdings. People have had millions of acres of their own land they owned stripped from them.

These were never taken from the states. They were lands reserved by the federal government from before the states existed. In some of the states, Nevada being one of them, it's enshrined in the state's constitution. These sparsely populated states, had, and in most cases still have, no way of administering or managing these tracts.

If public lands are privatized, the first thing that will go away is access for recreation. Think about that, sportsmen.

I don't know how I feel about this, I'm a big fan of keeping protected national lands. That being said, living in Colorado, I drive to/through Utah a lot and let me tell you, there is a frick ton of desert land there. The National Park and Monuments system is great, but I don't think those monuments needed that much extra land.

Bears Ears Monument is 1.3 MILLION acres, and 640 acres is 1 square mile, so 1.3 million acres would be 2,031.25 square miles.

The state of Delaware is about 1981 square miles or SMALLER than the proposed Bears Ears Monument.

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument 1.9 million acres that is roughly 2,968.75 square miles

The combination of just these 2 designated monuments would be 5,000 square miles!
