Before the mullahs took power, Iran, under the Shah, was a good ally and business partner. It was a repressive regime, but no more so than most other regimes in that part of the world. The western powers refused to help the Shah, and his regime was easily toppled - that led to the Iran we have today.

Crowds incited to violence by Mulsim clerics and officials on the basis of racial hate doesn't qualify?
