That's exactly what Obama would've said. Congrats.

But he had 8 years and he never did. He must have been OK with Chicago's 4000 shooting every year.

You're missing the point. He would've loved to have gone into Ferguson or Baltimore or Baton Rouge and "taken over" due to "systemic racial issues." He knew he couldn't because there would be a massive uprising from the right on Federal overreach. The same people (at least some) who would've been horrified with that are somehow now cheering on Donald threatening to do the same.

The Chicago cops know who and where the bad guys are. Now that Loretta Lynch and the "Justice Department" aren't around to protect the thugs the cops can do their job and with some extra Fed manpower clean that cesspool up.

It isn't this board it is politics in general and it goes both ways and we are all to blame. This is why we don't see any news on the news anymore....because they are fueling our team spirit so they can sell more erection cures.

Baby boomers, Gen Xer's and perhaps millenials...it may too early to call them out just yet....are the worst Americans to ever have the honor of calling ourselves by that venerated name. Boomers raised a me generation after realizing that their socialist utopia wasn't going to work and it was much more fun to manage hedge funds and drive BMW convertibles and Xers have raised and are raising kids through ignoring them and letting them raise themselves EXCEPT when it comes time for the parent to be acknowledged (baseball practice, dance class etc) and then we can't stand the thought of our little ones being left to their own devices....it is hard to imagine millenials won't be as fricked as their parents and grand parents.

We live in what I call a microwave society...we must have instant gratification....we can't even watch TV without fondling a device that can change our world view in 1/10th of a second non stop until the batteries die. We are unhappy and looking for someone or something outside ourselves to make us happy and give us meaning. The Greatest Generation was the last generation of Americans who received such a gift from the outside....we called it WW2....we would be much better off finding meaning within ourselves....

Agreed. This isn't something the president should be involved in.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but O'Reilly did a segment on this like an hour before this tweet.

He used the same stats, even the word carnage.

I wonder how quickly this board will turn if Trump's solution is federal gun control.

What is our responsibility to the people of Chicago if they don't want to help themselves? I know it's better for the country if our cities are safe and well run.

Is Trump saying he wants feds to investigate Chicago administration officials/police or does he want to send in law enforcement (which I suppose means troops)?

Depends. Trump isn't being specific in a 140 character tweet.

Feds investigate department or government corruption all the time. I'm not sure if that is what they are saying here though.

He's not saying that either. He's being very nonspecific....which is why this thread is so long. Without those specifics, there's nothing really to discuss.

I don't think troops are appropriate unless there's a major public safety threat above and beyond what the local and state officials can handle, such as a natural disaster or riots. I've got no problem with feds investigating police department practices, investigating individuals for breaking federal law, or looking into potential corruption in city leadership.

People showing how much they blindly follow.

The double standard is unreal.

I don't see where Trump is proposing Marshall law. He seems to be intentionally vague.

Given Trump's history with twitter, this is probably to get social media platforms and news networks to discuss his vague tweet and draw attention to Chicago's problems.

of course, I don't think Trump is going to issue Martial Law

but that is what happens when you make vague threats, people can interpret them anyway they want

Comparing Chicago with Ferguson, Baltimore or Baton Rouge is idiotic.

IN the end I really don't care if anything is done about Chicago, it's a shite hole and they can kill each other if they want IDGAF, Obama would have loved to send feds into Baton Rouge Baltimore and Ferguson because he is and was a racial shite stiring. No white people to blame in Chicago so he ignored it.

Feds were sent into New Orleans in 2012 and Baltimore in 2014. This is typical faux outrage from the left. I really don't know why they'd be outraged by the POTUS wanting to stop the violence crippling the poor black people in that city.

I guess the left really don't believe black lives matter.

You're right. Baltimore and Baton Rouge are far more dangerous.
