So he doesn't have to come up with $455 million despite what your title says
—————————————
No , he can pay the bond. However if he does it that way , even if he wins he will owe 45.5
Million to the bondsman. So he gets taken to the cleaners even if he is right. Nice justice system we have , right ?

Is this up to the discretion of the court or is this a common practice?

Extremely common. I have several clients right now with 8-figure supersedeas (aka appeal) bonds.

It is designed as a show of good faith that you will pay in the event of an unsuccessful appeal and to insulate the plaintiff in the event you go bankrupt during the process or attempt to subvert the ruling by illegal transfer of assets. Most courts take the amount of the judgement add back interest and add future interest based on the normal appeal time frame to some up with the final supersedeas bond amount.

He should ask the US Mint for 455 million dollars in loose change. Then drive several 18 wheelers to the court and get out in a fork lift to deliver the 455 million dollars in loose change.

If you don’t like my loose change idea, how about dollar bills.

Heck even 455 million in hundreds is at least a few pallets.

I meant that anyone who supports this attack on Trump is a bad human being. Your idea although unrealistic would be great.

Sounds like a good reason to get the hell out of Dodge to me.

There is no getting the hell out of dodge. Trump already relocated to Florida. The NY judge in this case placed his own valuation on Mar a lago, a property in Florida and used it in part to find him guilty. If you do any business in NY, fleeing to the other side of the country is not going to stop them. Look at what they did to Rush for years. The audited him every year despite not living in the state. He had to keep track of every second he was in NY just for his annual audit.
