the cure works, he knows this
but they cant say it publicly until production of it ids at levels to give to all states, so for now he has to be measured while giving america optimism they arent going to lose their jobs and their homes
all the while, democrats are using it as an opportunity to loot as much taxpayer money as they can while preventing any attempt to reassure america we are ok

ook, this is a hard choice for all. I have a brother who has congestive heart failure. He can live a nice long life with it. However, if he gets the corona virus, he'd probably die. He's 53 and other than his genetic heart condition, he's in pretty good shape. Right now, like the rest of his firm, he's working from home. If we don't combat the corona virus NOW, people will just keep spreading it around (with many getting it multiple times and subject to multiple 14-21 day quarantines) for years. People like my brother and the elderly will be required to work from home. Will firms and companies be required to retain these people? Will they be subject to the protections of the ADA? These are hard questions and I don't believe that there is any "right" answer.
The fact that you have three downvotes is disturbing. Everything you said is valid. Us humans are fricked!

I get both arguments, but this extremely sudden pivot is confusing. It leaves many people wondering what the hell is it that government is asking us to do. Four or five days ago, we all needed to do what we could to limit the spread, now we have shifted to needing to get things back open. On top of this sudden shift from the White House, you still have escalating case numbers, state and local governments enacting stricter measures, etc. To the Average Joe worker, it is confusing as to what he or she should be doing.

Trump isn’t basing anything off of data or science.
Yea. He is an idiot. He turned that million into billions by not using data and just used dumb luck.
When will y’all understand how stupid you look? Y’all want/rather people that have propelled through society on other people’s money and their political manipulations. That’s actually your preference, and it makes you look pathetic.
You let Trump’s “mean words” and CNN’s talking points overrule your common sense.

Roll tide ravens, the OP is misleading
Trump said he would “love” to see America get back to work by easter. We all would
It wasn’t a deadline or an order. It was a mere opinion.
The policy has not changed.
We will re-evaluate in a week as to the best path forward, which was ALWAYS the plan for the 15 day social distancing.
If the docs and public health experts say extend it, then it will be extended

I’m unwilling to have the engine of the US economy sit in idle just because he might not fair well with this virus. We will continue with the precautions. But, we must get going. The breadth of this response has been ridiculous
Are there any economists recommending this, though?

Dems are dancing in the streets. They can’t help themselves. I will never in my life vote Dem . Could be a Dem against Taliban leader ,Taliban leader would get my vote. Believe dat!

Agree with Trump.
It’s time for America to get back to work...with caution.

Recommending what?

you still have escalating case numbers
This is one of the problems. We have a 24 hour ticker counting every case in the world and many just don't have the correct prospective. If we would have tracked H1N1 real time or any flu for that matter you're would have seen similar trajectories.
dont get me wrong. I think this stuff is dangerous but we've been going overboard and we must consider the economy. The economy and public health are not mutually exclusive.

less restrictive virus precautions in order to put more of the public back to work.
If reputable economists aren't even recommending it, there's not much of an argument between the two authorities on this (and in which case our politicians really need to be getting in gear for major public assistance).

financial consequences are a lot more dire than the actual virus itself.
its only about polling.
being electable.
nothing else matters to him.
the actual virus will have a lot more to say in about 3 weeks.

Trump's one of the few people in DC that you can't really say that about. I'm not saying he's altruistic or anything, but he had a life before politics; a pretty damn good one. Being a politician was never his life's ambition like most of DC. It's all Obama ever lived for, it's all Hillary ever lived for and it's all Biden ever lived for. You'd happily vote for any of them.

Good polling and being electable usually means you're doing a good job.
