How would the Chief Justice know the name of the whistleblower in order to deny reading the question?

The only reason I can think Roberts would refuse to ask the question is that the Whistleblower is a potential witness.

The ONLY reason the House Managers don’t want the identity of the whistleblower to be known is NOT because of protection, but that it would open Pandora’s box and severely damage their case.

Paul could have asked for Schiff to explain his relationship with the Whistleblower. Roberts could view that as a potential question to witness Adam Schiff. Just a guess.
