But you're looking at this logically, and MAGA isn't bound by logic when it comes to tariffs. Or pretty much anything else Trump says on a given day.
Still waiting on the Great Depression you guys promised.

Do you have statistics for that?
I'll do some looking, but it takes a deep dive - the typical stats don't tell the whole story.
You'll see the % of income paid by the different groups, *but*, that is just for filers (many with low income owe no tax and don't need to file). Far more distorting are the returns that receive an overall net *credit* are not counted in those stats.
And be careful of those stats, many don't distinguish between a *refund* (net tax paid), and a *credit* a negative net tax).
It's pretty easy to find the stats that the bottom half of *filers* pay only ~ 3% of the total FIT. So it sure isn't a stretch to think that adding those with credits and non-filers would push that to a majority that pay no FIT.

If you want to continue to pay taxes, no one will stop you from doing any money to the government.

I think if the government shut down recently showed us anything, it’s how much we do not need the government in their current capacity.
Maintain our roads, give us protection, and maybe a few other small, miscellaneous things, and get out of the way.
They were problems with flying secondary to TSA, that’s a easy solution.

You don't honestly think they will be sending out $2,000 tariff rebate checks, do you?
That wasn’t his question; it was:

Why cant we?
The answer is: We can, however it would cause a big spike in inflation as 3Down10 has been trying to explain to you.

Spending cut in half or more, federal government reduced in size.
But eliminating income tax for the middle class would have the opposite effect - it would cause the government bloat to get worse as the number of taxpayers decrease and the number of welfare recipients (the middle class) increases. How do you think those non-taxpayers will vote?

Would take a constitutional amendment I believe
Not at all. It would take laws being changed, but there is no constitutional requirement for the government to tax people’s income.

Epoch Times - Trump Says US May Cut Income Tax Completely in Next Couple of Years Due to Tariff Income
quote:
Trump said in a Nov. 24 post on Truth Social that he expects tariff revenues to skyrocket as global buyers run out of stockpiled imports they had kept to avoid tariffs. “Despite the massive amount of money being made by the United States of America, Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, as a direct result of Tariffs being charged to other countries, the full benefit of the Tariffs has not yet been calculated in that many of the buyers of goods and products, to avoid paying the Tariffs in the short term, ‘STOCK UP’ by purchasing far more inventory than they can use,” Trump said.
“That heavy inventory purchase is now, however, wearing thin, and soon Tariffs will be paid on everything they apply to, without avoidance, and the amounts payable to the USA will SKYROCKET, over and above the already historic levels of dollars received. These payments will be RECORD SETTING, and put our Nation on a new and unprecedented course.”

Everyone hates the IRS. It’s one of the few things everyone agrees on—both left and right. So, Trump comes out with what would be a life altering move to get rid of income tax altogether, thereby gifting every American a massive raise, and the left attacks.
They’re not even interested in discussing how amazing that would be. To them, if it involves Trump all they’ve been conditioned to do is lose their collective sh*t, even though they’d themselves benefit greatly. Think about it for a hot minute.
Trump is boldly/legitimately talking about something that would change everyone’s life, and all you get from them is dismissal and anger.
I point that out because it’s weird that they have precisely zero interest in considering the benefits if he can actually make it happen, being certain ahead of time that it’s impossible.
I guess ‘Hope & Change’ only matters when Barack talked about what he wanted to accomplish.
