One thing I'll say for Dan -
He's made a bunch of public comments reflecting his understanding of the frustration. Most of them are wrapped in a "take comfort/have hope" package, but to me he certainly sounds like someone who had ambitions of doing the right and hard thing who was either prevented from doing so or just never in a position to do so.

Granted it isn’t ideal. But there are some good people in there. Trump’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t know who can be trusted. Especially after the first go around where several were actively working against him. That has led to some poor picks. It is what it is. Serious question: What’s the worst thing Trump has done in his first year? What did he really get wrong?
