Almost all restaurants are serving imported seafood now.

Well, avoid those.

Again, my only comment was that this will increase prices Even at places serving gulf shrimp.

Imported shrimp are great, as long as you're using them to bait trot lines

Yep ever since I remember China and Vietnam. A lot cheaper do to lack of sanitary measure required. They produce shrimp in nasty places over there. A lot of waste water, it would make people throw up if they knew where those imported shrimp came from.

MSGA. I’ve heard the local catfish farmers are getting into the shrimp raising business. Could be a way to supplement the supply. Shrimp are so popular and i bet i eat them 2-3 times a week except during crawfish season where i substitute crawfish.

Nothing better than fresh gulf shrimp. Unfortunately most people won’t pay the price. I want to try the local farm raised shrimp and see.

If they were serving only Gulf shrimp, they still can. Win/win.

Why wasn't this a thing before protecting our shrimp industry?

India is the top supplier of shrimp to the US, accounting for 40.8% of US shrimp imports. Ecuador is the second largest supplier of shrimp to the US, accounting for 27.8% of US shrimp imports.

Other suppliers of shrimp to the US include Indonesia, Canada, Chile, and Vietnam

China is the world's top shrimp importer

I’m sure I do, but I try to avoid.

However, if you can’t see the difference in shoes and food, I can’t help you.

I would not knowingly eat food from China, especially “fresh” food like shrimp.

We should feel some sort of loyalty to shrimpers but not other US industries? Are we supposed to prioritize buying American only when we might know the people who benefit?

I’ve been going to seafood markets for decades and never remember seeing shrimp sourced from China.

Crawfish on the other hand…

Cry moar.

That'll force the a-hole restaurant owners down here on the Gulf Coast to serve gulf shrimp and support our local shrimpers.

Of course we should. But as you know, it’s not always practical, or even possible.

However this is a Louisiana-based board and choosing Gulf shrimp is an easy choice.
