I didn't think he would jump in.
So tomorrow, I will take my "L" and refrain from posting (not that I am all that prolific to begin with!)

Louisiana Republican Treasurer John Schroder is telling supporters he is running for governor in 2023.
In a text to supporters obtained by USA Today Network, Schroder wrote: "Just wanted to let you know that the Schroder family has met, and we will be entering the governor's race. Timeline for announcement is not set yet, but I wanted to let you know."
I didn't think he would jump in.

I saw you stated above you don't think he'll run. I think he does enjoy his current position; however, I'll go opposite and say he does jump in. Make you a one-day ban bet.

So it’s looking like:
Schroder
Nungesser
Landry
Hmmm
I want to like Schroder but know zero about him. I certainly don’t want Nungesser. Still leaning Landry.

Nah...no need. You’re one of the posters on here who actually pays close attention to Louisiana-specific politics and government issues, so I'd rather read your take when such news or threads are posted here.
If something is posted tomorrow, join the jungle.

Can Schroder raise the money that's necessary to compete in a Louisiana Governor's race? We're talking at least 10 million here.
If he can't raise that money, then we have no business talking about a Schroder candidacy for Governor.
If there's one thing we learned from Ralph Abraham's campaign in 2019, you can't win if you have no money and certainly can't campaign well enough to win. For comparison's sake, Eddie Rispone spent at least 14 million iirc, and was able to drown Abraham with it.
Btw, Nungesser and Landry already have at least 10 million in the bank iirc and is primed to add more soon. Can Schroder compete with that?

Plenty of time to find out more about him (and the others).

I believe he can raise enough to win the runoff vs the Democrat should he survive the open primary.

Nungesser and Landry
I believe there is a significant portion of conservative voters in Louisiana who believe Nungesser is too much of a RINO but want an options that isn’t Jeff Landry.
With Schroder declaring, he now get first shot at courting those voters and their money. The problem will come if you see another similar jump in (Graves, Hewitt, Allain).
Nungesser is going to get those entrenched RINO-leaning voters, and a base in the Alario territories of Jefferson, Orleans, etc. Meanwhile, Landry’s got a hardcore segment who believes he’s the only Republican candidate in the entire state who is worthy of the conservative Republican banner in this race. Those two bases are pretty solid and set.
So the question is if Schroder is able to get the people who haven’t already been locked into one of those two camps the past 4 to 6 years.

I will take Landry for $1000, Alex.

Will eat up Nungesser's big personality. The Coach O of politicians.

Schroder is a RINO in disguise. As a State Rep, he was among the first to cave to JBE and the dems. No substance and not very bright. He will split the RINO vote with Nungesser and get swallowed up by Landry on the right.

Seconded. I enjoy both of your posts and perspectives.

Yeah, this is going to be a real problem for Schroder.

Y'all don't want your RINO Garrett in there?

Nungesser is a big fat no go for me… he is beyond a RINO.

Yeah I really dislike that slob. I guess we are going to end up with another slugfest between R's and will end up draining their $$ and bashing each other.
And that's how we end up with another damn Dem as governor.

When you’re family (like myself) you knew this over a year ago. If he wins, I’m gonna start playing the “do you know who I am” card.

I think a big part of BigJim’s theory that Schroder wouldn’t jump into this race was that he enjoys his role as State Treasurer (I’ve heard the exact same through the grapevine), and if he were to jump in, he’d do so knowing he was giving that up. Therefore, I have to believe he’s been given some impression that if he threw into this race, there would be some competitive financial backing he could depend on.
It may not be $10 Million like Landry and Nungesser, but enough that he’s got a legit shot to get his name out there further to compete.
