Tokyo Olympics coverage spurs 'advertiser anxiety' as viewership continues to decline

Go Woke, Get Broke

NBC’s primetime coverage of the Tokyo Olympics continued to spiral downward on Monday, averaging 14.7 million viewers for a 49% drop compared to the equivalent night from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
Monday’s telecast also shed 53% of viewers from coverage of the first weeknight primetime during the 2012 London Olympics and declines were even larger among the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults aged 18-49.
quote:
Variety senior TV editor Brian Steinberg wrote that the drop has spurred "advertiser anxiety" which hasn’t been eased by the news that legendary American gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from team competition and fan favorite Naomi Osaka was eliminated from tennis medal competition.
quote:
Steinberg quoted a media buying executive who said the early viewership "clearly are not what NBC, our agency or our clients were looking for" from costly investment.
"This executive said early viewership trends were ‘disappointing,’" Steinberg wrote.

Let them go back to non-televised Olympics. It worked before we had TV.
Let the athletes perform because it is fulfilling a personal dream. Give the country an update when it is done.

Haven't watched a f*cking second of the Olympics. And, I won't watch it all.
F*CK those woke pieces of F*CKING FILTH.
Think about what would happen if an athlete wore a jacket or flag around them that said, "Trump Won - BY A LOT!"

Would be awesome to hear that the low ratings kicked in the clause where they have to make it up to advertisers. Hard to think what nbc has that could satisfy the exposure they were selling.
I'm also interested in knowing how the companies the hired the biles to promote them are going to handle what she did.

First time in my life I haven’t watched one second of the games. It’s sad really. I want to watch the greatest athletes compete but I just don’t care. Maybe for the summer games things will change.

They are going to walk the woke line and say "good on her for taking care of her mental health"

Probably come out with some terrible mental health commercial about her and how brave she was

With all the BLM BS of all major league sports, women’s soccer kneeling and lying about their pay, I’m just not interested in the Olympics and sports in general. Been exposed to maybe 5 minutes of it while taking to my wife who was watching some of it. I’m taking a knee.
Am I braver than Simon Biles since I quit on the Olympics before her?

I'm sure the WNST making a big deal about kneeling to start the Olympics certainly set the tone and a lot of people said frick it.

People tune in to sports to watch sports, not leftist political dogma dressed up as sports.
You’d think the movers and shakers would’ve gotten a bit of a clue by now but they appear more than willing to go down with the ship.

frick those kneeling USA hating bitches of all 11 known sexes.

It's because the coverage is shite. The Simone Biles story broke yesterday, and wife loves gymnastics, so we were watching. Biles F's her vault up, drama is unfolding waiting for the score to drop and.... commercial break. What the frick? We turned it off at that point. I don't need them to report on what happened anyway, I have Tiger Droppings, commercial free.

I'm usually all over every event I can watch. Don't care I find them all interesting on some level and then, in past Olympics, I had national pride knowing my countrymen were there and I was gonna cheer them on no matter what fricked up sport they played or how little I knew about it.
Just like every other form of entertainment that has been turned into a political cudgel fashioned and utilized to beat the American people into submission and slowly break their will, I lost a decent chunk of interest in it.
Not interested in being lectured or propagandized while trying to enjoy being a spectator to an event that is apolitical by nature. It sours the whole experience to a point where I still enjoy watching, but I don't have any regrets for missing a game anymore.
Perverting something so pure and good by forcing it to be political ruins enough of the fun to the point of almost not caring at all for me.
