I’m with you there.
What was preventable about this present cycle is that it was always obvious that once Texas started doing it mid-cycle, tons of other states would do it. I don’t know how anyone gains from that.
Districts should be drawn by software, with solely three components, in order of (1) raw population; (2) keeping existing administrative, municipal, and subdivision boundaries where possible; and (3) geographic boundaries where the above isn’t applicable. Demographics, outside of a simple total number, should never even be a data point considered.

Democrats know how to wield power. Republicans need to learn how to do it.
Despite what people say here without thinking, there are more opportunities to do this in more populated blue states than there are in red states with like one blue district.

Yeah this is one to keep an eye on

I don’t blame anyone who is disillusioned by this Republican led Congress. Twice Trump has had both chambers and neither one has delivered for him, which means they thwart what the people want.

Simple question, why is it not okay for them to do it, but it was ok for Texas to it without a vote? At this point, I think 4-5 states have done it on both sides of the political aisle.
Color me ignorant, but truly trying to understand all of the comments here.
I am staunchly opposed to Gerrymandering, but our politicians on either side don’t seem to give a frick. Shocker there.

Because VA voters passed a constitutional amendment in 2020 giving redistricting powers to a bipartisan commission and away from their legislature. Same reason CA had to do a constitutional amendment.
Texas did not do this.
Also, for the smooth brain dems arguing that Texas started this and that it’s “tit for tat,” please let us know how many Republican districts there are in the Northeast. The truth is that Blue States gerrymandered heavily after 2020 and Red States didn’t.

Trump has had slim majorities in both chambers and the "filibuster rule" that requires 60 senate votes is a deal killer.

New England votes about 40% Republican, and has literally 0 Republican US House members.

VA dems have conducted this election in the most corrupt manner possible. They drafted misleading and biased ballot information—restoring fairness when in reality they are doing the exact opposite. Violating state laws on the amendment process. The “blue tailed” lobster district. Pulling Obama out of storage to have him read pretty words against a background of sophisticated music. The entire process is a sham and con job, as are most things with the democrat party.
A group of ppl getting to vote on redistricting is somehow bad---
But a bunch of politicians in Texas pushing a mid-decade redistricting to add five Republican-leaning seats, with no vote, is good?
Interesting

Lol, I love the down vote on PT for asking a genuine question.
Thank you Riverside for taking the time with your response. What are they voting on now exactly? Is it to overturn that constitutional amendment they passed in 2020?

There’s a screenshot of the referendum in this thread. See for yourself.

Incoming results looking decent.
Yes - 47%, No - 53%.

Yes. The dems claim this is only a “temporary” departure and that they will switch back to the bipartisan commission in 2030, which is a total lie.

No's have an 80k lead but Fairfax hasn't reported any votes yet and it's a huge Dem county.

The Blue areas always hold back their votes. Happens in every close election it seems. It’s like the reservoir of fraud.

I don't think NO will win, but I will say this, every southern state needs maps ready to go the day the VRA supreme court decision comes out.
Florida needs to gerrymander the entire state down to 2-4 blue seats. Treat them how they want to treat others. Scorched earth.
Their claims of Republicans started this is lunacy. Look at Illinois.
Every red state needs to get their heads out of their asses.

Have you not been following the VA stuff at all???
Virtually every fair-minded commentator says it’s corrupt and wrong how the ballot question was designed. And how they didn’t tell voters what the map is
