Pretty sure in the recent news cycle California and VA are doing this in direct response to Texas gerrymandering off the normal schedule.

The high court refused on Feb. 4 to hear a challenge to California’s ballot initiative to redraw its maps in a way that could shift five House seats from Republican to Democrat. The decision followed one in December that allowed Texas to use a map that could flip five seats the other way, from Democrat to Republican.

That is only half of the argument. The MSM isn't reporting the reason WHY Texas gerrymandered. I addressed that here in an earlier post in this thread.

The MAGA pearl clutching over redistricting is rich beyond belief. You hypocrites never cease to amaze me

most of the redistricting efforts on both the GOP and DEM sides will end up in a wash.

That is all it was ever going to be, just a tit-for-tat that only harms the electorate and gives neither political party any real advantage.

Same dumb frickers who put the CIA spook in the governor’s office will be voting for this to "get Trump"

Not to mention electing as Attorney General a man who openly said it was necessary to murder the children of his political opponents because it would inflict the maximum amount of pain on them.

And when a woman asked him to please stop saying that, he doubled down.

And Virginia elected him to be the Attorney General.

Yep, the wording of the referendum is in no way balanced or neutral.

It doesn’t matter who started it in the recent cycle. Gerrymandering has been going on for as long as we’ve been a country. Anti-Federalists tried to do it to prevent ratification of the Constitution. The birth of gerrymandering as we know it is detailed for you in the link below. No matter what the political parties are called, opposing sides have been trying to gain an advantage this way since the beginning.

Origin of gerrymandering

shite, that’s just a US focused explanation (which makes sense because we coined the term) but that sort of thing has been going on since the late 1600’s when GB/UK went to fully geography-based constituencies for the Commons.

And probably before that too. Politicians seek advantage, and gerrymandering is just a manifestation of that. As long as humans are involved, it’s an inevitability.

Yep, I was just pointing out to those arguing about which state did it first that their argument is irrelevant.
