Better terminology would be the United States and the West squandered the sacrifices made in WWII. We took what they did and disrespected it.

But, you could still walk through the front door of a restaurant and order a sit down meal and not have to pick it up from the back door...right. Or, perhaps, get a loan at a bank to buy your family a house on a certain part of town without restriction. Or, perhaps, cast a simple ballot at the polls without having to take a literacy test or guess the number of beans in salad jar. We have been very unfair to minorities in our history...can't whitewash it or downplay its severity because we had it tough in the mines.

Agree. The Stalinist regime was equally as evil, especially against anyone considered a threat to its existence. The gulags were at full capacity, the Russian Officer Corps wiped out in purges, and large wraths of people killed through mass starvation. Later in the century, tens of millions died under communist regimes in SW Asia and China. Not sure I would group socialism and communism together...private property doesn't exist in communism, whereas, it does in socialism (focused more on income redistribution vice income seizure)

I totally agree. I wish it would start with the federal & every state government eliminating the mention of race on all official documents. No affirmative action, no celebration of cultural or religious events, no DEI, none of the divisive stuff. It's a shame that our country which was once the beacon of hope and liberty is now viewed by the world as the biggest threat to world peace. We need to focus on things that really matter...addressing the growing national debt, rampant crime, unchecked immigration, tremendous drug use within the country, crumbling infrastructure, wealth inequality, failing education system, failing healthcare system, government corruption, halting the spread of subversive ideology, and other important internal issues.

I know for my family personally, my grandfather went into the war kind of floating through life and not buttoned down and focused. He came back from the war extremely focused and made an amazing life for himself and his family! So I would definitely say the war changed his life for the better and I am sure he was not the only one. I think most of the guys who survived felt they owed a debt to their friends who didn’t to make something of their lives!
