Wow. Do you believe this? There are no conventional wars with superpowers. We attack them, it goes nuclear. WWIII.

How about all the Taiwan citizens move to the US and all the communist US citizens who hate their nation, move to China?

Amphibious assaults are difficult and costly. We were expecting a million casualties in operation Downfall. China can expect something similar. If US submarines are active it could be far worse.

If Taiwan is taken China will take a pounding, loss of a large part of their navy and massive casualties. Then comes guerilla warfare for years.

There was a time when I believed this …. for most of my adult life, in fact.

But I now believe that China will seize Taiwan without the US firing a shot.
Our shadow government allowed this.

2 groups that look like each other and speak the same language fighting it out sounds particularly nasty.

You really wouldn't know who you could trust.

3.1 times smaller than Cuba and 30 miles closer to China than Cuba is to the U S (60 miles versus 90 miles), 240 miles long and 90 miles wide, population of 23.5 million living in an area about 3 times as wide and not quite twice as long as the Atchafalaya basin

China was hoping to just take Taiwan over without conflict, but those hopes were destroyed by their last elections. Taiwan doesn’t want China rule, and China paid Biden off and has the receipts. China doesn’t want to chance someone other than Biden being President. They’ll either move now, or wait till someone without their influence sits in the White House down the road.

All that + about 2/3rds of the world's semiconductor production for the taking.

It's not "for the taking". Taiwan will destroy that production before they let China have it.

The world would just lose 2/3 of its semiconductor production for a period of time until other outfits could be created. It would certainly hurt for 5-10 years.

So who would intervene?

One, its Hong Kong part deau. They cut off trade with Taiwan and Taiwan will crawl through broken glass to join.

Two, China views Taiwan as part of China. If California wanted to secede would we be okay with China getting involved (I know, we would let them have it, but on a serious note).

Three, can we once and for all stop with the nonsense of "china thinks long term". The communist party is 80 years old and already imploding, so much for long term. They think so long term they destroyed themselves with one child policy. They have to steal 400 billion in IP every year from the US alone. They have to send millions to the US and Europe for education, Does any of this sound remotely like "long term thinking".

They need Taiwan to surrender before the industrial strength of the US can be brought to bear against the Chinese fleet.

Why would the US need "the industrial strength of the US" to take on the vastly inferior Chinese fleet?

No. No.

over 80% of taiwans electricity is produced by fossil fuels. which must be imported. i think china could put up an embargo around the island and stop the inflow of those fossil fuels. taiwan would quickly fall.

So a chunk of people are saying Biden has destroyed the One China policy (by saying we would defend Taiwan), and another chunk says that Biden is compromised and will let China take Taiwan.

Y'all need to get your stories straight

a. The West has helped Ukraine from being completely run over

b. Putin spent years devolving Russia's economy to become "sanction proof". China's economy is based on lower-level industry making shite to sell the rest of the world. China can't threaten to go nuclear against the countries that fuel its economy, and if the CP chooses to devolve the economy/SOL of China, they'll likely be overrun.

B is why this fear porn is unlikely to ever happen. It would be literal suicide by China and their ruling party. Putin is in a much different position in a country with a population used to a shitty SOL and bleak existence.

I’m just thinking that there is far too much trust with “the world“ rushing to aid Taiwan. Look at all the repercussions laid upon China for intentionally releasing the Covid virus.

(in case people have already forgotten, there were zero repercussions.)
