Even though I think he would be better for the country, the fact is we are so far down the tribalism hole, that the timing was not a smart move.

His campaign has definitely come up short.

Yes. I think he was weighing the decision and some dumb and parasitic politicos made a full court press on him and convinced him that he could be the replacement for Trump who could not keep going with everything coming at him.

I know it's taboo on here, but let's not ignore his wife's influence. Seems to have her own ambitions eyeing the WH.

I like DeSantas. He would be a good President. The best thing he can do is go home to Florida and support Trump.

His candidacy exposed Trump/the MAGA movement to the small contingent of conservatives and traditionalists left in the GOP.

Probably not good for his political future, but he baited out some antics by Trump that dispelled many of the notion that the Trump movement is something conservatives should back without major reservation.

Too many in the GOP enjoy the rino populist clown show that is Trump. It is not for everyone.

I wish they would all just admit that the only reason any of them are in this is because they expect Trump to be jailed by the convention and want to be the next best option.

No

I'm not going to spend the next 11 months pretending Trump has a chance in hell of winning

Ya think?!

I understand his initial launch. But it quickly became apparent that Trump was/is unbeatable in the Republican primary.

He should have dropped out, and continue fighting the good fight in Florida.

Instead he became beholden to the GOPe for money and strategy. They pushed him into a hard anti Trump stance, because that’s what they are.

He may have fatally tarnished himself like Pence. He probably will not be the VP of the ticket. But, he can restart in four years, after several more good governance years in Florida. And, he will not have to run against a term limited Trump.

I’m voting Trump ‘24 come hell or high water, but I’m fully open to Ron in ‘28.

I’ve read this a few times and still don’t understand what point you’re trying to make.

Are you saying that Ron’s supporters are basically a small sub-group within the Republican party who identify as “traditional conservatives”—whatever the hell that means?

I’m part of that group and I didn’t want Ron to run, and didn’t think we needed him to run. I think the we the OP was referring to is the Wall Street Journal editorial board.
