Regardless of what I saw from someone state yesterday, I've got several very experienced friends who work in the same field I do... computer developers and analysts.
Two were laid off recently. As is typical today (especially when more resources are available than positions), to get hired requires going through several rounds of 'hiring interviews'. Both are working through these.
The brutal truth-- If more than 90-120 days go by, their careers are possibly over. That's how bad this is.
One in their 30's, the other just turned 50. The latter is already starting to consider what this means, and he may need to turn toward big box home improvement stores for any employment.
This is going to be brutal in next few years.
As far as taking over the internet, we have to have domestic resources in the event we disconnect from overseas. With AI already 'breaking' into other systems, Houthis attempting to use AI to design weapons, both drones and biological, That day may come soon than most realize.

Well, at least we won’t have to worry about digital money, banking, or crypto…that’s gone

Can’t they just stop using it? Destroy the server?
Nah, they’ll just ask for (and receive) more money.
I want to be this kind of inventor. The kind that says I’m not sure what I invented or what it can do correctly 100% of the time but it might destroy the human race so send more money!

We know you aren’t a bot. Bots have more robust vocabularies.

Regulatory capture as a business model to lock in a duopoly.

No one knows when it's going to occur (probably in the not too distant future) but at some point an AI based shite show is likely to happen and it will have a significant impact on the US and the world at large.

The AI you refer to is nothing. The real shite you don’t get to use.

Yes they do and they should because they are computers and I'm a fricking human

They don't want the people to have access to this powerful tool. Currently you can install AI on your own computer and run it the way you want. You can specialize it and remove all restrictions to dangerous thought or information.
Legislation would restrict that for every day citizens and make AI be under the control of corporations. There would be no option to make your own.

This AI glazing is out of control. You all need to stop and ask yourself what this convergence of messaging while under a “threat” is really pushing?
Their entire argument is basically “let’s hand the government even more regulatory power over the internet and technology while we move toward a clearly dystopian surveillance state”
Think for just two seconds: they could create an attack right now, ANY attack, and just blame AI…and we have no way to prove them wrong.

True and think about this a lot. We got no idea what they are doing, or anyone is doing.
You figure anybody working on the most advvanced shite cant talk about it.
We only know what they tell us.
They shaping the reality and the narrItive.
A battle back and forth with companies that got different interest.

Why? China will not slow down. Whatever AI is going to do, take over the internet or something else, it will happen regardless. what good is slowing down if it’s only you that’s doing it? Our guard rails get better by “guard railing” better AI. You want china to have the guard rails and let their creations have their way with us? You have to win. Period. If you want to force additional resources on guard rails I’m for it. But you absolutely cannot stop
You sound like the one I want to ask.
What is the space race/arms race of AI? What’s the end goal? I understand whatever the end goal is you want the United States led by Trump to have that lead but what exactly is the data/AI war going to do?

The capabilities of current LLMs are not anywhere near that kind of risk. I'm not sure we see legitimate AGI in my lifetime if I'm being honest. Thats when things get legitimately dangerous.
These stories are company shills trying to drum up support for new rounds of funding. Similar to how you start to see reports about China catching up to us when the MIC or DOD wants more money.

I don't think you understand the value of LLM with respect to advancing toward AGI. It allows a person to access the entire published knowledge of mankind, sort through that, and give you an intelligent response based on your inquiry. THAT alone is a terrifying leap forward.
An intelligent individual researching AGI now has all of human understanding at their fingertips. You can even ask an LLM how to put the pieces together. Things a human might have missed.
Not to mention, the LLM itself has access to AGI research and can make quick suggestions on how to improve it.

It is going to be able to track everyone and forecast how they will react based on various situations. It will basically be an all seeing, all knowing entity that can give the operator any information they want about any individual and even accurately predict outcomes. It is basically going to be a Godlike power for those with access.
Think in terms of the military. It will be able to track every piece of equipment moved by an enemy (including nuclear submarines) and give you an accurate assessment of their abilities, response times, engagement scenarios, suggest locations to strike and when, locations open to propaganda, locations subject to outside influence. It is basically a Panopticon.

It's amazing people don't see through the BS narratives even still after all we've been through.
Here is why they are peddling these narratives.
1.) The big players want to increase the barrier to entry so that future startups are less likely to compete with them. Add a regulatory layer that only they have the resources to comply with.
2.) The uniparty Blackrock types that run things do not want open source moels to exist. They willl push to ban or nerf open source/open weight models. They do not want to lose control over being able to censor the AI. This is HUGE. They'll say it's because of safety but it's really about controlling narratives, tracking people, and keeping people in check.
