My faith is the most important thing in my life. It makes me a better American. Being a better American is also good for my faith. Everyone needs to chill. I can pull out a bunch of quotes from both parties saying how important their Christian faith is to them.

One could argue that Christianity's "importance" is measured in followers. There aren't many followers in North Korea, Communist China, the old USSR, or Islamic theocracies. The American experiment provided a platform for free religious expression. On that platform, in which one can freely choose amongst all religions or atheism, Christianity flourished. Subsequently, the US concepts/approach spread to Europe and elsewhere. That is the argument of American importance.
Insofar as America and Christianity are interdependent and cooperative concepts, your outrge over the pretext of relative importance is wasted energy.
