I like the way they look and feel, but I've shot a handful of different ones, and none of them would hold a tight group. I stopped wanting one.

I had one until I lost the lot in a boating accident. There are a lot of waterways in Louisiana. I've got really bad luck.

Still like my chances. I own both, though, just in case.

ETA: I own both, allegedly. Nice try, ATF.

I bought a 9mm assault hi point rifle for $170 at a gun show a long time ago. People can say what they want about hi points, but I could hit a can at 50 yards off my hip regularly, it never jammed once, and the 9 mm rounds are cheap.

I love that gun.

Cop asked me while at the Lake. "It takes us 25-45 minutes to get here. Got a gun?" "Big one, want to see it?" "Know how to use it?" "Can you hit center target at 300 yards consistently?" "Not that good, no." "I'll teach you how to shoot one day."

Drove up from Tampa and stayed at the Lake. I arrived to hear my brothers shooting at the dirt bank ....New Glock. "Something wrong with this gun." "I see the can still has one hole on the top." "Can't figure it out, something wrong with the sights." "Let me try." Plink, plink, plink ..."Now you have three new holes. Nothing wrong with the gun, its' the shooter, bury the sights. I was walking to get my bag out of the truck "And don't be a smart butt and try to shoot me in the back. All you'll do is hit my truck and tick me off."

When the InRangeTV guys say they'd take the AR over any other rifle in combat, there's something to it.

Not familiar with them, I’ll have to check them out sometime. There’s room in my heart for both platforms (as well as many others).

Lots of really good AR’s out there now. Don’t even have to make the jump to Gucci light speed with a KAC or similar to get a really, really good rifle.

My condolences friend. I would lend you mine, but sadly it suffered a similar fate before I even got 100 rounds through it. RIP

AR is pretty much superior to the AK in most every metric

Correct. Although the 74 is a pretty good gun. At least when done by izhmash or arsenal.

74 is a better iteration. The AK just has some fundamental design flaws as far as modern weapons are concerned

Ak12 is supposed to be a lot more modular but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen pics of one out in the wild. And on the Russian photo ops I’ve seen they were wearing things like Aimpoints and PEQ15’s lol.

I will say the one area the AK is better than the AR is mag construction and durability. Those things are built like tanks. Maybe not as quick to change but man they do work. Besides not lubing the BCG properly, the main failure I’ve seen on an AR personally were mag related.
