Of course, the vast majority of us blame Democrats and border security means a great deal. We are willing to weather the storm if it means we get serious about illegal immigration. It means a lot to me in particular because i was a Border Patrol agent for a decade before my current gig.

ETA- to address the loans, most of us are ok, provided this doesn't go on for months. But most of us are formally military and banks like Navy Credit Union, Pentagon, Cabrillo, etc are giving agents interest free loans based on your pay grade.

They are free to look for another job anytime they please. Trump isn't holding them back from doing so.

Right. And what happens when ATC and TSA employees start quitting in droves? How do you think that will work out for Trump?

Many of these people simply don't make enough money to accrue any large safety net that could get them through months without pay

It hasn't even been 1 month yet.

Those essential personnel that are working right now, will be paid for it.

Except they won't because they know they will be paid. Hell the TSA should be done away with anyway.

It's not hard to get approved to work for the TSA.

no sympathy for a fedgov shutdown

Using fed workers as a sympathy card by each political party is a loser because the majority of people in this country just don't give a shite. They associate the fed worker with the govt. When people will start giving a shite is when they're delayed in airports, don't get their tax refunds, can't get a VA loan, passport, trip to grand canyon canceled, etc.

It's not smart living paycheck to paycheck. That's just common sense. Not even a left/right, private/federal thing.

With much less manpower. Refunds will be delayed, a lot, if the shutdown continues for months. Honestly, I don't see that happening. The president will declare an emergency to avoid that long of a shutdown.

You're assuming everyone does this by choice.

But for the vast majority, choice is exactly why they are living paycheck to paycheck.

As a fedgov worker, your company doesn't make money.

Actually, the bureau I work for, and the other bureau in my building, bring in the 2nd most revenue to the US behind the IRS.

I Know, we’re not selling a product or surviving on supply and demand. But we do bring in a ton of money.

Also, not sweating. And also a MAGA and ok with the shutdown.
