If there was still only one way to create a child, and we were coming off of a population-depleting war, I'd pretend to be outraged.

Has anyone cared to notice that the whole LGBT stuff isn't really about religion, and more about the State's desire to grow/curb population?

Sorry, your religion has been straight up used for the concerns of the State.

LOL at "assigned" male or female at birth like someone handed out a damn sticky note with the gender written on it and the parents rolled with it.

Is freaking biology still taught in schools? I feel like I didn't have to take sex Ed to understand how we were designed.

Not that it’s relevant, but those definitions aren’t even correct.

Which one's are wrong?

I'll tell you: the one that says gender is "assigned" at birth. Gender is NOT assigned. It is recognized.

If it was assigned, why wait until the ultrasound or birth to "assign" the gender of the baby? Why not "assign" it as soon as the woman knows she's pregnant?

You know the reason: because gender is NOT assigned. It is merely RECOGNIZED by the medical professional. Is there a penis? Yes, it's a boy.

OR

Is there a vagina? Yes, it's a girl.

Not sure if that, or the common core math, triggers more people.

It's accurate.

So... if second grade is not the appropriate age to teach kids this information... what age is?

My oldest was in first grade when my aunt became my uncle. We explained it to my child. All was well.

Kids are exposed to this stuff well before second grade.

So if teacher changes "assigned" to "recognized"... you are good with this?

Development is different for each child; humans don’t grow in exact, replicable silos.
So the answer to your question is, “That’s the decision of their parents.”

that is a pretty ridiculous poster to hang in a classroom

I can't imagine 2nd graders clamoring to have this knowledge either

I don't think it has anything to do with the age. My 5 year old has been exposed to this subject since she was born, since my wife's uncle is gay and has a lifelong partner. It is pretty simple to explain and kids don't really question it further once explained.

Just trying to understand why this needs to be taught in a classroom.

What subject is this?

So... should we treat all subjects in this way?

We probably should just give up all grade levels, and allow each child to develop and learn, with regard to all subjects.

And since it should be "the decision of their parents", we should, honestly, shut down the entire educational system, and require parents to do their own teaching to their kids.

And you never would have even raised the subject had family matters not required it.

I'd prefer to wait until the kid is old enough to discuss what they "learned" beyond the black and white that just definitions provide. When I tell her the term cisgendered isn't really a recognized term by most of society, and is the product of sociology not science, I'd like her to be able to understand or tell me why she thinks I'm wrong. Not just say...b/c the teacher told me it's true, b/c that's all their minds can handle.

Everything on that sign? banner? is accurate.

It says a queer is “a person who doesn’t identify as straight or bi or gay.” I thought if you weren’t straight, you were definitively queer. Now you are not? Now gays are no longer queer? Is this simply another example of liberals changing centuries-old language because it suits their whims?

Individualized instruction? Good schools/teachers do.

To an extent, I’m all for it.

That’s your opinion, I guess.
I do agree that public school is very flawed.

I would classify it as social studies.

Why would we not want to teach kids as much as we can about how people in the world operate? And despite the protests of this board... this is how people in the world operate.
