Because that is their job. It is also their job to use reasonable judgement regarding their subject manor.
This person decided upon herself to be a martyr and teach sexuality to second graders. I disagree, I dont give a damn how strongly she agrees. I also would disagree with a public school teaching about Charles Manson as part of History class. Is it History, yes.
Just because it is vocabulary (which by the way is a weak fricking argument to hide behind), doesnt mean it is appropriate.
There are times and places for all conversations, this is not the teachers place to decide. If she is going to be teaching about gays, she needs to go ahead and teach about sodomy, oral sex, bestiality...I mean they are words right?

2nd grade should be about math and reading comprehension.
I volunteered at a school during college and they taught they class in Spanish and English because the didn't want the spanish-speaking only kids (the entire class basically) to fall behind in Math by not understanding anything.
They didn't start teaching the class solely in English until the 5th grade. So the kids could learn math and have skills.
Now this bullshite is a priority for 2nd grade? This is more important than math and grammar? This indoctrination bullshite.
2nd grade is for times tables and cursive.
