This election is reminding me more of 2012 the closer we get to it.

Am I wrong to think this feels eerily similar to the 2012 election? Trump like Obama has the ground game and enthusiasm, but i remember up until the day of Romney was leading nationally and seemed like he was headed for victory. I could be wrong ,but I remember when Ohio was called it was an early night. To me it feels similar and I do not think this election will be close and on election the libs are going to spiral into a meltdown.

I don't think it feels the same at all. With the exception of that one Gallup poll you linked, all other polls showed Obama ahead or within the margin of error.

That poll was an outlier and wrong.

No if I remember right Romney was leading in the polls nationally up to election day. I could be wrong ,but the thing that is different is the rhetoric has definitely ratcheted up a bit.

Romney had a lot of momentum, but I never felt he was leading. Like McCain before him (although McCain didn't really have a legit chance like Mitt did), he went into the tank because (also like McCain), he would rather have had Obama as President than himself (or any Republican).

My only memory of the 2012 race was me blowing $300 on Romney's campaign before he wimped out in that third debate.

Romney continued to show a lead in the Gallup poll throughout. So maybe that's what you remember, since Gallup had such a big name then.

Here's an article discussing how Gallup got it so wrong - LINK

I can see that. I thought Romney had a good chance late into the evening, but it wound up not even being close. My youngest son was born that night. There were a lot of mixed emotions.

He had some momentum but (based on media reporting of polls), nothing like what Biden has now. Confidence in Romney around here was mostly due to an “insider” who said internal polling showed Romney with a big lead.

Romney was never ahead.

In fact, on this board, some yahoo named "Joshua Chamberlain" claimed to have insider dirt on how 'polls' were wrong.

The whole 'oversample' nonsense.

Then, we got 109% voter turnout in key precincts of Ohio and elsewhere.

A few months ago, this felt like 2004. John Kerry, armed with anemic liberal platitudes, was rejected by people who were sick of the left wing elitism he represented.

Now, I don't know what it feels like. 1917?

The Obama ground game in 2012 was a juggernaut. Ohio, for example, had same day voter registration and early voting. The Obama campaign would plan “free” concerts in urban areas, have someone like Stevie Wonder sing, and then bus tens of thousands per day to the polls. 100% Obama votes would come from that. Hillary’s people never tried to replicate that because they were too arrogant to see the need, and 2020 won’t allow such tactics.

I was extremely let down after the 2012 election. Hopefully I'm not let down after this one.

This election also reminds me of 2012, but in an unnerving way. I vividly remember conservative friends, and conservative sources, confidently predicting a Romney landslide, and the devastation I felt the morning after (I'd gone to sleep early) when it turned out Obama won. I'm getting that same echo-chamber suspicion-feeling this time as well with all the predictions of "Trump landslide".
