These so called educated college age Bernie supporters...WTF

I think people have seen the success the Nordic countries have had at overall quality of life, and have a want for something closer to that

Tremendous difference between education and wisdom.

Smaller population of homogenous people, can't compare.

1) They are educated, but in liberal disciplines

2) They were told by the Boomers that they have to go to college or else.

3) They have run up huge student debt loads because of #2.

4) They are entering a work force where, if they can find work, it is increasingly lower-end as entry-level jobs get outsourced

5) They see an increasing gap between the rich and everyone else, who are increasingly getting richer because of #4

When you have no income sources, crushing debt, no health insurance, etc, tell me... would socialism really be that much worse?

They don't see socialism and how it's failed in Russia and Venezuala. They see what's happening in Finland et al and see people living a decent, if not exceptional existence. They are judging that to be better than what they are graduating into.

All great societies have eventually failed because the chasm between the haves and have-nots got too large, leading to revolution. And that revolution is always led by the young. If nothing changes, why would the US be any different?

And can you tell us the demographics of those countries?

Take a look around, We are not in Finland, Sweden or Norway here.

They’ve been taught half of the truth: that there have been a lot of structural shifts occurring over the last 50 years that has resulted in large portions of the population being left behind.


But then they aren’t taught anything about fixing it (because fixing it is fricking hard, and college teachers sure as shite don’t have the answers). So they’re left in this vortex of discomfort where everything looks broken but no viable solutions are being proposed. Along comes Bernie shouting ‘trust me, I’ll fix everything!’ They buy the snake oil. The simple fact that he’s honest about the problems that the establishment has been ignoring for the past 5 decades make him appealing to those who have been taught that world is broken.



But thankfully, trump also came along and identified the same issues but presented a better path forward. Some young folks are starting to see that, but many of them are unfortunately already pot committed to the march for Bernie.
