Landry still isn’t speaking to Moreno, but governor has reached out to one NOLA council member

Gov. Jeff Landry is still giving Mayor Helena Moreno the cold shoulder nearly three months after a New Orleans grand jury indicted Attorney General Liz Murrill on charges that have since been tossed.

In an interview on WBOK’s Good Morning show Wednesday, Landry reiterated that he would not speak with Moreno and the other five city leaders involved in the indictment until an investigation is complete. But he said he is still maintaining a relationship with District D Councilmember Eugene Green, who has been uninvolved in the proceedings.

Tensions between Landry and city leaders boiled over this summer after Murrill, a close Landry ally, was indicted on 16 felony counts of malfeasance in office and public intimidation related to letters she sent during a dispute with city leaders over state lawmakers’ controversial move this year to combine two court clerks’ offices in Orleans Parish. Moreno and others had pushed for an election for the new combined clerk position, prompting a letter from Murrill saying they were breaking the law and risking their jobs.

In his comments Wednesday, Landry said he has still kept up communication with Green, who did not support the City Council resolutions about the clerk’s office. He said he also “planned on reaching out” to District B Councilmember Lesli Harris, who also did not support the resolutions.

Landry said he invited Green to the Governor's Mansion after Green reached out. The two spoke for an hour about “different issues that he’s got in his district.” Landry said it was his first time meeting with Green one-on-one.

“I thought it was very productive and heartwarming,” he said. “I told him, ‘Give me a call if you think something is slipping inside the city.’”

Green is the biggest welfare queen in the whole fricking city. I live in his district and he is absolutely useless. He'll attend the opening of an envelope, though.

A couple of years ago, I had major issues with ongoing construction on my block. I contacted Green's office 83 times requesting assistance and he didn't respond to a single one of my emails. I was complaining about him to someone who told me that Green is very active on NextDoor. I sent him a message on NextDoor and he called me on the phone within minutes. He was still completely useless on the phone. He told me to go advocate for myself at a City Council Meeting. I asked him why we pay him to attend the meetings if he won't advocate for his constituents and he gave some nonanswer. He fricking sucks. I'm glad his stupid kid lost whatever office he ran for recently.
