These 70+ year old Senators should have all retired years ago.

Clinging to power all the way into the twilight years of their lives.

Let's hope this trend reverses once the boomers fade away.

We need a mandatory retirement age for all politicians.

I'm feeling deja vu because the last time we complained about walking corpses making decades-affecting decisions for us someone also invoked the Strom Thurmond defense a few posts in.

Strom Thurmond is the argument for?

Really?

Term limits is a better idea. I don’t know the right answer. Lot of good people that could ‘retire’ from their jobs in their 60s and go into politics for a term or 2. I don’t think you should just auto disable someone that’s in their 60s from working a full term. But at the same time, yes lifetime politicians working until they literally die in office is ridiculous.

I keep hearing so many people say in a whiny voice: "We don't NEED term limits. The term limits are already in place for them. All the people have to do is vote them out."

Well, the same can be said of the president. So why were term limits for that office enacted shortly after FDR's death? He was elected to four consecutive terms but served fewer than three months of that fourth term. In all, he had about 12-1/4 years in the White House. There are congressmen and senators with more than THREE TIMES that much time in office.

Yes. We need Constitutionally established term limits.

It’s their purpose in life. Not family or enjoying their remaining years. Power is the reason for their existence.

Blame the voters for continuing to support these fossils. The state parties also need to step up at some point and tell these people they aren't going to back them after a certain age.

why would you have an opinion about tom cotton, according to your profile you live on the gulf coast he's not your senator. by the way he'll win reelection by 30 points. he's basically running unopposed.

Id guess A few reasons. The executive has a lot of power and the people vote for someone to have that power.

More likely, congress can continue to be worthless while also giving the people the idea that we’re gonna get a new president in a few years, so our problems will be solved.

At the end it's low info voters who keep voting them in, but the lack of term limit just exacerbates this.

I agree that is a big part of the problem but not all of it. I can't think of the guys name in Mississippi that the people were about to vote him out and the GOP establishment pushed in a lot of money to persuade Dems to switch over and re elect him.
This is a huge problem. Term limits is the answer but it looks like a pipe dream .

These older politicians have allowed this problem to fester, and oftentimes encouraged it.
