Maybe this kind of shite will finally get the conservatives to realize that the military is actually just another dept of the federal gov't and is just as fricked up as the rest of it. I've never understood how conservatives were fine reducing the size of all the federal depts except the military?

This is no surprise.
What you are seeing now is the results of the liberal (and in some cases socialist) plan to transform America which was initiated in the 60's buy people like Saul Alinsky and his brainwashed followers.
Think about that, roughly 60 years after initiation they are reaping the benefits and it all started with little seeds planted in the education system which have now spread like poison Ivy throughout this countries' political and social infrastructure.
Do you(Not directed at any one person) have the commitment and dedication (as well as attention span) start a movement today that might reap benefits in 60 years? To stop focusing on things in Washington that we can't fix and instead focus on getting people elected to your local school board and local offices that uphold your values and share your belief in what this country should be?
Because that is the only to change what the liberals have managed to do in the past 60 years. Take back your local school board, then take back your local Mayor, DA, Governors & state officials. In doing that you'll learn who you can truly trust to work for you in Washington and they'll learn what it means to be a servant of the people.
I do not think you can change anything at all by who you send to Washington. Not at this point in time at least. It's a giant meat grinder that will destroy anyone who doesn't "play the game." Trump is a glaring example of that.
Just my 2 cents.
