Trump’s goal is to fire 1 million federal employees. This isn’t just about making them more productive.
Perfect. Any employee that is traumatized by writing a single email a week can leave. Any employee that consistently fails to meet expectations gets put on a PIP and then fired.
To be upset about a single email a week is just silly.

Irrelevant to the validity of requiring a single email detailing their weeks activities.
However completely relevant to the post I was responding to.

Look I agree with you, but the purpose of this tactic is to create a hostile busywork environment to get people fed up and quit. I’m just acknowledging that as a fact rather than arguing with RFK about expectations of the private sector as a comparison.
Trump and his team have identified the existence of the bureaucracy as a direct threat to them and to the country. Sure, their wastefulness and inefficiency is part of that, but the bigger problem is their subversion and insubordination. He wants to fire at least half of them to undermine their power first and foremost, not improve their efficiency.

Lol look at all the down votes this got. Someone's angry they're gonna have to work on MLK, Juneteenth and Columbus day like the rest of us.
ETA: instant down vote for me
Almost forgot, Your new private sector bosses are gonna make you work Presidents day too

It's been fascinating to see the federal employees on this board out themselves in real time. Big mad someone is checking to see if they're doing their jobs or fricking about on taxpayer time.
It has definitely shown what some people know and what other people think they know.

Very timely anecdote. If you don't think the federal workforce and pay scale has changed in 30 freaking years, you are being willfully ignorant.

My friend is in computer engineering. Works remote. His mouse movement is tracked. If it stays 8dle for more than 15 mins he gets written up.
FYI: You can buy several versions of mouse motion movers to override this.

The last company I worked for literally recorded every single phone call I made and Teams meeting I had. Additionally, my manager could listen to my phone calls in real time and message me with coaching tips as I’m trying to sell the product. It was a bit unnerving to say the least and downright counterproductive at the worst.

I've had maybe 4-5 beers. TOTAL, during the work day 'start --> finish' in the past 25 yrs.
Did I dip out early and get happy hour started? Sure. Not on any routine, but it wasn't terribly uncommon. Just not my thing to catch a buzz only to go back to work for a few hours.

Teachers have to submit lesson plans, not that different, or difficult.

Silly question, but I’ll play. Immediately put all 2 million on a PIP and start recruiting their replacements. Once a replacement is found if they haven’t met the terms of the PIP, one by one they are all replaced. May take all 4 years…but once the first wave are let go, the insubordination would stop.
It amazes me how you are all so upset over one email per week. Shows just how little most of these who are upset actually do. This plan is working.

That is the best case scenario Musk and Trump are hoping for. They are fishing for any excuse of evidence of insubordination as pretext for firing.

Sorry, can not take this seriously.
Weekly status reports are common. Managers that do not require weekly status reports are highly highly suspect.
