Funny how as soon as the Soviet Union collapsed Islamic terror took its place.

I don't think you can support this statement but I'd like to see you try.
Without question, the Shah was a tyrant. We could document that for days. But what about Mossedegh? Lets see something to backup your statement.

1,000 years from now archeologists will excavate land that we now call 'suburbia.' They will find decorative refrigerator magnets and say "This was indeed a great civilization."

Not to totally disagree with you, but what are some things this nation is the greatest at doing?

I was living in France 10 years ago. My opinions, aside from Australia, is based on actual personal experience and not media or hearsay. But I frequently visit friends and family in Europe and not much has changed.
Thanks for the answer.
I would venture a guess that if you asked the people living there you would get a different response. As far as visting goes and getting the impression that not much has changed, you could probably get the same response from someone how visits the US. Living here, do you think the culture has changed much in the last 10 years or so?

biggest economy in the world with a couple of countries in it that have 5x the number of people in them
usually have as many of the "real" Nobel winners as the rest of the world combined
biggest one is hundreds of thousands want to immigrate here every year vs. a few thousand that want to leave

It's a mixed bag:
We're the only nation that rejects soccer and the metric system so that's a good thing.
Unlike Muslim countries we allow women to vote. That's a bad thing.

I remember back in 2007 when i went to Zimbabwe.. we were told to not even mention Mugabe.. good or bad stuff.. just leave it alone because if it were bad, we would be jailed.
Political affiliation aside, imagine growing up where even speaking out negatively about the President would get you jailed..

What will become the next new battlefield, now that marriage equality has been resolved, and transgender rights are becoming increasingly embraced by the greater community?

Country will collapse. No way we can sustain the level of spending we seeing right now. Too many people sucking off the system, not enough folks paying in. Plus Obama, his union leeches and the politicians in Washington skimmed off trillions through money laundering shovel-ready jobs and so-called clean energy schemes. Throw in the TARP ripoff and continuing resolutions in place of budgets and this government was/is leaking money like a broken main water line in NYC. We're broke and running of borrowed time. This coming collapse is going to be some ugly. It's a downright crime what these politicians did to the working class American people. The Feds have run out of options. No more QE's.

quote:Are you insane. What the frick do you think we've been doing in the Middle East the last 16 years.
But with the exception of a few Spanish territories in the late 1800s, for the last 160+ years, we have not taken any territory or maintained any colonies after winning a war.
Unless you're under the delusion that the greatest and most well funded military and defense systems in the history of man is chasing a band of thugs for the last decade and a half.
quote:Excuse me Pollyanna, but we have sent thousands of our best and bravest to die over there and murdered/and or displaced millions to save the establishment's arse - at OUR expense.
Instead, for good or not, we have thrown blood and treasure into the grind of history for the greater good.
How the frick do you consider that for the greater good?

Been to all of them but Australia and lived in France. They enjoy life more, work to live and not live to work, don't have fast food on every corner, you can piss in a bush without getting arrested, law enforcement are better trained, public is better informed politically, education systems are better.
What the hell are you smoking? As someone who has dual citizenship (USA/France), owns a home in France and lives there part-time, you must be going to Disneyland France than the reality I live over there. Education is not better there, it's pretty crappy compared to here. Go into the poorer banlieues of Paris and try to tell me they don't have crumbling infrastructure and a terrible education. Accept for a few Universities, every college is trade school level compared to the US. LSU would be the Yale of France.
Everything is more expensive, except vegetables, they're cheap as hell. There's rampant unemployment, hardly any class mobility or room for advancement at your job. How can they be happier? I walk weekly through massive strikes and protests with people yelling and screaming and throwing shite through windows and at Police. The public is not "better informed politically", they get unbelievably biased news and you'd be shocked if you talked to them about the US and how much they don't know but they've made up their minds.
It's a beautiful place to visit but it is by no means a better country to make a life.

Sorry, was busy all day. Yes, the culture in some parts of Texas has changed with all the Mexicans and Central Americans here.

Those that are downvoting can carry their useless, sorry, mooching, liberal asses to another country and live in their liberal/socialist/fruits & nuts utopia land.
Heck, just move to california.
