I’ll start off with a concession; Trump’s personality is indeed fairly authoritarian, and I can understand why that personality alone would lead individuals to make the sort of statements that you began with.

BUT, the good news is that we live in a country where the government was constructed with the express purpose of preventing an individual with an authoritarian personality from ever gaining enough power to be anything close to resembling a dictator. That system has, quite successfully, held trump in check to prevent him from becoming what you claim. Let’s dig in...

The ultimate thing that blocked congressional testimony was the impatience of the leaders of the House. The executive branch and the legislative branch disagreed on the oversight powers and subpoena ability that the legislature possesses. The constitution lays out a very clear process for such a disagreement; the judicial branch arbitrates the appropriate path forward. Congressional Dems refused to abide by that path because, according for their own testimony, they just didn’t want to wait. The impeachment show was giving them political momentum, and so doing that impeachment correctly was less important to them than doing the impeachment now.

You can’t blame Trump’s administration for having a different interpretation of a complex series of laws than the house managers. That continually happens through every single administration we’ve ever had. And because of that reality, we have a system in place to deal with such disagreements. The Dems refused to use it. That’s on them.

You are massively hyperbolizing the word war. Trump has not shut down a single press outfit in his entire time as president. He just voices his disagreement with them. Given, he occasionally has a tenuous relationship with the truth when doing so, but still. This country was founded through a series of complex, heated, continuing disagreements and debates. To the point that debating is baked into our cultural DNA. If we’re at the point in American history where people now consider disagreement and debate to be analogous to war, then we have truly lost our grasp on reality.

Tea Party protests weren’t being used as cover to loot 5th Avenue and burn police stations. All the same, they were still very much suppressed with the actual power of the IRS actively engaged in shutting the organizations down.

But you knew that was a bad-faith comparison, which makes me assume that this is all just one big troll. In which case, congratulations I guess; you successfully trolled someone into trying to engage in a good-faith discussion about the direction and well being of our country. Oh the absurdity of it!
