DHS requested military assistance in support of ICE and ERO operations.... Pretty much same thing as in LA...
However, the Dems will be screaming "OMB taking over Chi-town and this won't stand"....

At best,regular troops would be only authorized to do that.
It's for show. They sure as shite are not going to put troops out in Washington Park, Riverdale and the Garfield Park areas. They'll be downtown for the photo ops.

Beefing it with federal troops? Nope. It should not. Do I wish the state of Illinois and city of Chicago would beef up local and state policing in their high crime areas? Yes. Do I think they should leverage federal law enforcement to assist them in bringing crime down? Yes. Would I have a problem if the governor of Illinois mobilized his national guard to help police Chicago or at least free up cops and state troopers to focus on the high crime areas? Eh, I’m still not crazy about it but I could get over it.
Would I support the President unilaterally sending the army into whatever city he chooses to conduct police work, even if it’s 100% effecting in lowering crime?
Absolutely not a chance in hell.

We already know that the police have announced that they will not support troops. We also know that the governor is extremely unlikely to mobilize his national guard or allow national guard from another state to operate in Illinois. ICE is going to get huge pushback in Chicago.

The NG are gonna be driving trucks and providing logistics for ICE. Mayyyyyybe you’ll see them do crowd control in the vicinity of major ICE operations. But even that probably treads on pretty iffy legal grounds.

Well, that bunch was basically allowed to run roughshod across the damn country, causing billions in damage to private property and businesses. Too bad they didn't throw some rocks at a Fed, maybe that would have garnered a response.
