Consumer Reports did a huge investigation into this and discovered that the US government or universities actually developed most new break through drugs and then the pharmaceutical industry bought the patent or claimed it etc and that they spent 100 times on marketing m, TV Commercials etc as they did on R and D. It’s all an lie

This is completely wrong. I’ve seen the actual numbers. The pharma research and development costs dwarf government and university spends, and the universities get milestone payments and royalties from pharma. Marketing costs are generally 100-150% of sales in years 1-3 after launch (when sales are lower), and then drop down linearly to around 5% by the end of the patent life.

I know it's hard work, (SARCASM), but does everyone have to be spoon fed to get information. It's not like you are digging a ditch in the extreme heat or extreme cold.

I’m pretty sure everybody knows this. Now what’s he going to do about it? Nothing. Because big Pharma has the government in their pockets.

Past time we cut other countries loose when it comes to what we provide for free or heavily subsidize for them...

One of the few conspiracy theories I legitimately believe in.

Hasn’t this been common knowledge for a long time?

Yes. Of course the example I always heard was “us pays more so dirt poor countries in Africa can afford malaria meds” which always seemed a little more digestible.

When you realize entire Euro trash governments are exploiting us while their citizens rub “free health care” in our face then it’s time to kill their golden goose.

Defense, healthcare. What else do we pay for?

AND,

This is a stat that may be 2-3-5 years old,

But I’m sure it’s still fairly accurate.

USA 5% Global Population

Consumer between 75-80-85% of all Big Pharma Drugs.

Super Low Cancer & Heart Diseases in most 2-3rd world countries as they use natural remedies and grow organically.

They’ve been poisoning us.

Treat us for profits, hide the cures

The treatment usually progresses into another disease or sickness for more “treatments” and it spirals.

We have been subsidizing the entire world thru USAID/NGO’s

We should all demand every single penny back and real retribution for what has been done to us.

Some will never recover on many levels.

Look what Covid did to small business owners, lost everything, then lose their minds and then their families.

It’s all a bunch of BS & just glad to see it’s being surfaced

To some extent, this is accurate.

But we are still buying these ridiculously priced meds. So the market is beating the cost. We have outsized demand for pharmaceuticals.

He noted that despite the U.S. having less than 5% of the world’s population, it generates about two-thirds of global pharmaceutical profits, calling the arrangement unfair.

This system, he argued, allows other nations to "free-ride" on American pharmaceutical innovation and spending.

We've known this for 20 years though.

...it's a press conference about an executive order to fix the problem. He is trying to enforce "most favored nation" pricing on pharmaceutical companies. What they charge in other developed countries is what they will charge here. They will not be allowed to charge more than they charge for each drug in other developed nations.

No. They will raise the price they are willing to pay. At least the developed nations will.

Even if they have to raise the prices from the newly lowered prices for this hypothetical you highlight, Americans will still be better off and paying less than we started with.

Yep. Thats why it was smart to tie this to developed nations. Countries in Africa are never going to be able to pay what Europe is paying even right now.

Record profits in the medical industry.

We already have prices being controlled by the Medical Insurance companies.

We already have Hospitals price gouging customers (e.g. charging $50 for Advil).
