So coming out of a household barley scrapping by you graduate high school. Get a minimum wage job because you don’t have the opportunity for your parents supporting you through college. You’re making 7.25/hr and youre saying you should work more than 40 hours a week. But also you need to go to a technical degree / program which also costs money and requires time. So how many hours are you working while doing schooling?

Your question has been answered from several different ways. You don’t want an answer, you want to cover for an adult that is not worth more than minimum wage.

15$ minimum wage sends millions of jobs to China.

Exactly, it simply increases the standard of living gap between the U.S. and other industrialized nations which means ironically liberal progressive companies like Apple will move even more operations to China and other cheap labor countries.
What it boils down to is a transfer of profits from small businesses to big businesses with more people on government dependency which of course is what liberal progressives want.
What is the Matrix? Control.....

This is a moronic idea.

Indeed. What is even scarier is there is no way to reverse this once it’s done. Can you imagine trying to tell people their pay is going from $15 to a lower amount doing the same amount of work?

Not that those jobs deserve that pay in the first place but good luck telling them that. Now that rioting is the new “pitching a fit” I bet the one following this would be a dandy.

Minimum wage jobs are for kids. You are expected to improve yourself and earn more money. A $15 minimum wage will price kids out of their first time jobs.

My wife did exactly this. She took 3 classes per quarter (wasn’t semesters then). She worked 40 hours a week as a bank teller at min wage, 16 at an answering service (think receptionist) and occasionally did babysitting for a few customers from the bank. She had a roommate and lived in a 2 bedroom duplex. It took her 4 years to finish a 2 year degree. She then got a job working with a real estate attorney that paid enough to quit the part time job. She went back to banking as a customer service rep/loan officer. She became an assistant manager and the. Branch manager for a credit union.

Why do people act like this is impossible?

You’re right if people don’t agree with me I’m ok with that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I’m just simply stating mine.

I’m not advocating for people to sit at their home all day getting handouts. But if the US is really the greatest nation wouldn’t you think the greatest nation allows you to work an honest 40 hrs a week to have basic needs? Because guess what if you don’t provide that you will give it in the form of food stamps, housing assistance, child care assistance, etc. is it the worse thing in the world to actually let people have some pride and be able to support themselves?

Please tell me you are not old enough to buy alcohol yet.

tigersfan1989, so 31. Are you the adult making minimum wage?

The last time minimum wage was increased was in 2009. How much has higher education cost increased since 2009 over 10 years ago?

So if min wage increases to $15 you aren’t going to pay your workers more? You’re effectively going to give them a massive pay cut to where they’re now min wage workers? Why would they stay working with you when they can do a much much much easier job with way less responsibility for the same pay?

Its doesn’t have to be complicated if you want to put in effort. I worked at a place for about the last year and a half of high school making $7-8 an hour mainly unloading delivery trucks, prepping/loading outgoing orders, and building/keeping up displays in the showroom. After graduation they gave me more hours because I was a good worker and reliable. When I wasn’t busy at work, I used the time to learn more about the products and shadow some of the sales guys it ended up getting me a promotion to sales. Went from $7 an hour at 17 years old to $40-45k at 20 at the same company from working my way up while going to college part time. You’re just making excuses for people who are a combination of lazy, uneducated, unskilled, or complacent.

Your question brings up an important point that is overlooked in these conversations, which is that of effort.

People that make good money, generally have to work their arse off. To get to where I am today, I have had to work well over 40 hours each week since college. My first job opened many doors for me because of the brand (and training provided), but 60 hour weeks were expected. I currently make a very respectable salary but I have to put in 45-50 hours (without commute) in order to do a good job and keep getting paid.

People that are only willing to work 40 hours a week, whether at work, school, training or any combination are going to have trouble getting ahead when so many are willing to. When these conversations of wage inequality come up it is often diminished the level of effort the “haves” put forth in order to get where they are.
