It's not "the" purpose but it is one of the many reasons we have 2A rights.

Leftists will gladly point out that there are more guns in Australia now than before the gun surrender program, and it's true.
However, while there are more guns, they are possessed by much much fewer individuals. Also, even those types of guns are not AR or other similar semi automatic high capacity magazine fed firearms.

Agree.
And every single gun law on the books is unconstitutional. Because they all infringe on my gun rights.
If the government wants to legally write a gun law they need to do it as an amendment. Every other law should be thrown out.
Like the 18th and 21st amendments were.

That's exactly what it entails. The problem today is people have been brainwashed into thinking it's about hunting with maybe revolvers for "basic protection" whatever feelings that includes at the time.
