Nobody is talking about this, but it's true.
At some point - sooner rather than later - we have to go back to normal You can't hit the pause button on commerce and social interaction for too long. Civilization will collapse.
Talked to a friend yesterday and they are laying off 40,000 employees - that's 50% of their workforce. 10 million people could be new applicants to the unemployment claims before we are done with this "wash your hands / stay inside" campaign.
We are going to have to come up with a plan B fast. Because telling the small percentage of people who can do their jobs on a laptop at home while everyone else eats a sh*t sandwhich and waits for a $1000 gov check is not going to work for long. I'm one of the guys with a laptop and I know my days are numbered because everyone else will soon be out of work.

Why are all the fear? I've seen you talk a lot about this. Is this a serious concern you have?

Because you either don’t know shite or you’re embarrassed by how big the number is. I’ll let you decide which.

Mortality goes up with increases in unemployment. This isn’t a zero sum game.

those of you who would prefer Italy's situation, why don't you check and see how things are going in their economy these days....
That's because they are shut down just like we are. We are talking about the opposite of that.

That's true.. I'm not sure how that could mean we're close to society collapsing.

Two options. Economic collapse with minimal sickness/death. Or economic collapse with everyone getting sick, overwhelmed hospitals and millions dying to a new age Spanish flu (even with the low death rate the infection rate is way too high).
Pandemics aren't just something that affects third world countries. Sacrifices have to be made.

Ok guy. If you think that proves whatever the hell you are getting at then do you my dude.

100,000 people filed for unemployment...
In Ohio...
In 4 days.
Now see what that looks like exponentially.

Getting closer by the day. I'd argue this is the closest to societal collapse since the civil war

How much is your life worth? People believe in self preservation above almost everything.
Also, since you mention self preservation.
People also REALLLLLLY suck at assessing risk. For example. If I told you that bankrupting YOURSELF for 10 years would eliminate your current risk of dying of the coronavirus, would you take that?
Cause. I mean. If you would, you'd be an idiot. And yet, yeah. Pissloads of Americans WOULD!

Let's go with Italy as an analogous estimation technique.

Because you read a meme that makes it so?
You do understand that the sheltering in place is not theorized to decrease the number of infections, right? It’s just spreading them out. We aren’t saving lives except by avoiding overwhelming a system we are nowhere near overwhelming.

Our state and federal government officials have horribly over reacted in an attempt to control this virus. The subsequent financial pain and financial disaster will be infinitely worse than the virus itself. There is a need for the medical and business communities to step forward and speak this truth.
We experience sicknesses in the form of the flu and viruses every year but have not shut our economy down and destroyed our financial institutions and businesses. Why now?

You are making shite up, just stop. Most people don't even have symptoms, very few even know they have it.
The hospitals don't help, the vast majority of the people that need hospital care die... the ones that need vents are dying 95% of the time.
The hospital isn't overwhelmed, they're morgues.

My ancestors helped found this country based on our right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. I fought communists in a war to defend those rights. Note that it’s not “happiness”, but the right to try to achieve it. What is “Life” worth if you don’t have a right to the other two things. Life is worth nothing to any thinking American who is heir to 1776 without the other two rights. As of now, your right to Liberty and your Pursuit of Happiness are being curtailed. This bullshite had better stop soon.

I’ve seen ~50% Mortality on pts on a vent. If it’s 95% (which I doubt), we probably just start having goals of care discussions with medical powers of attorney.

Hopefully at the end of this 15 day thing Trump did we just start to open this shite back up.

I want to be a country that pauses things for a month, gets a handle on this the right way and then moves forward prepared for whatever happens next.

Okay then
So adapt their number for our population and you have what, 20k deaths?
Let's look at all the other ways people die from infection and if the work stops in hopes to keep them alive?
