The President Tells Aides to Prepare for Extended Blockade of Iran

President Trump has instructed aides to prepare for an extended blockade of Iran, U.S. officials said, targeting the regime’s coffers in a high-risk bid to compel a nuclear capitulation Tehran has long refused.
In recent meetings, including a Monday discussion in the Situation Room, Trump opted to continue squeezing Iran’s economy and oil exports by preventing shipping to and from its ports. He assessed that his other options—resume bombing or walk away from the conflict—carried more risk than maintaining the blockade, officials said.
Yet continuing the blockade also prolongs a conflict that has driven up gas prices, hurt Trump’s poll numbers and further darkened Republicans’ prospects in the midterm elections. It has also caused the lowest number of transits through the Strait of Hormuz since the war began.

Trump is receiving conflicting advice about his next moves. Some officials and outside allies such as Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, are openly urging the White House to keep the pressure on Tehran. Others, including business leaders close to the president, worry that a shuttered Strait of Hormuz or more war would only hurt the economy, a potential political death knell heading into the November midterm elections.

Officials say Trump isn’t currently willing to drop his demand that Iran, at a minimum, vows to suspend its nuclear enrichment for 20 years and accepts restrictions after that point.

Iran must have more leverage than we are allowed to know about. It's not like Trump or Isreal to frick around with these guys while Iran dicks with shipping.
Edited to clarify who I blame for the shipping bullshite in Hormuz. (Iran, not us)

Trump won’t attack again until Iran attacks first. Interested to see Iran’s response. They are the verge of anarchy out there. Iran will lash out soon

This is Trump’s only realistic path forward at this point. He lacks the political will and popular support for a ground war. Pulling back now would look like an embarrassing defeat.
Starting this conflict was an unforced error. Trump doesn’t have a clean path to deescalate, and I don’t believe the options available to him will give him the “victory” he needs to spin this conflict as good for the American people.

If this is the juice, it’s not going to have been worth the squeeze.
Iran “vowing” anything is worthless. “Accepting restrictions” would be worthless.
This ultimately would kick the can down the road for a future generation to potentially deal with again later.

How long will they last?
They are being bled out Financially with the Blockade.
Breakdown of Estimated Daily Losses
Total Economic Damage: Estimates from the U.S. Treasury Department and independent analysts place daily losses at approximately $435 million.
Official White House Claims: Recent statements from the White House Press Secretary suggest the blockade is costing Iran up to $500 million daily as pressure intensifies.
Export Revenue Loss: Roughly $276 million of the daily total is attributed specifically to lost exports of crude oil and petrochemicals.
Secondary Revenue Impact: U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that as Iran's primary export terminal at Kharg Island nears storage capacity, forced production cuts could result in an additional $170 million in daily lost revenue.
U.S. naval blockade on Iran will trigger a currency devaluation spiral and hyperinflation, potentially ending the war more quickly, analyst says

when you cant stop Iran's blockade
act as if you're the one doing the blockading
while negotiating with a regime that is supposed to be gone

Trying to curl tail without world condemnation of resources shortages while not having to put feet on the ground and dealing with national politics is a balancing act. I do notice that not one SOB tried dealing with this issue in last 47 years and get anything close to success, so be appreciative

So ate up and rotted out with TDS, you can’t find the off ramp. You can’t find a way to reconcile your beliefs with the truth.
Must be rough. Do you even recognize your dissonance?
The Strait will remain under blockade until Iran accepts humiliation and no nuclear weapons.
Americans are soft and entitled. Now now now, me me me!!!
Iran will accept what they MUST accept.
Quit rooting against your country in favor of your selfish wants.

I just posted a thread with the reason why Trump has the option of keeping the blockade. The UAE withdrawing from OPEC is part of the reason....
It's all part of his plan!
If Saudi remains in OPEC, they could still allow UAE to pipe it's oil to the Red Sea and not violate any OPEC rules.

Those storage facilities filling up has future problems for pumps as they can be lost to seepage. Then you have losses of future production/ income
