This is what gaslighting looks like.

You don’t have to like New Orleans. But to claim it’s more dangerous now than it was pre-Katrina is patently false. And I stayed out literally all night at bars across the entire city (including the ninth ward - Bud Rip’s for those who know) starting around 2002 through 2005 and never was shot or robbed or anything else. NO was much more of a shithole back then. It’s Disney World now compared to before Katrina.

I wasn’t even referring to the violent crime. The place just sucks. But if you’re happy there then by all means enjoy yourself.

So you are saying AVERAGING 150-200 murders a year since 1972 is NOT a shite show?

NOLA had 266 murdered in 2023 and 280 murders in 2022. There was clearly an upward trajectory. There has been a recent drop in murders but violent crime is definitely worse and not reflected in stats as these are often unreported or mid classified by NOPD to make the stats look better.

Idiots like you give me hope that liberals will never be in power again. You people are too stupid for people to trust you in government. Never change Cubbie!

And you see this as New Orleans turning into a shithole after decades of few to no murders?

You said you are new here but you’re already doubling down on your objectively false claim while launching personal insults just like a good politard. You fit right in.

I never claimed New Orleans is the safest or cleanest city in the USA. It’s safer today than it was 30 years ago which proves it’s not “turning into” a shithole.

Look here Athens queer butt licker. How many police shows do you see in rural America?

Why is that?

Because they drop their homeless off in the nearest city, most likely.

Nonsense, and you know it. Why even go there?

It is a simple equation. There are things one cannot get away with in suburbia. So instead the homeless head to a place where they are not hassled for doing drugs, having sex on a public sidewalk, or defecating on a street corner curb. The question you should ask is why aren't they doing these things in your neighborhood. After all, what's good for the goose ....

quote:

Making homelessness illegal makes no sense.
Which literally addresses not a single claim in this thread.

Unfettered vagrancy is the case in point. Shitting in a San Francisco Safeway aisle unfettered is the point. Engaging in public sex acts in front of someone's house unfettered is the point. Being a public addict and leaving reuse of your activities on the sidewalk is the point. Unfettered panhandling or threatening pedestrians is the point.

For the homeless, shelters should be sought. That should be obligatory. Shelters should be conduits for employment, assistance, and uplifting advice. If behavior is such that shelter is not possible (e.g., drug addiction), and other corrective programs are unavailable, arrest is probably the most humane alternative.

No murders for decades? What the frick are you smoking? I know you’re a woman but you have to at least tether your argument to reality.

I guess my question is what percentage of cities AREN'T nicer and safer than they were 30 or 40 years ago? Maybe 5 percent?

What percentage are much worse than 5-15 years ago? 95+%?

And lots of what make them “nice” is crippling the country with debt.

It would help if people supported these random statistics they pull out of their butt cheeks with some reasoning or concrete evidence.

What metrics are you using to determine that the overwhelming number of cities in the United States of America are much worse than they were 5-15 years ago?

Many cities saw big spikes in crime 5 years ago during the pandemic so it’s difficult to imagine you are using crime as one of your metrics.

well, the ones doing the raping probably weren't looking for 250 pound tubs of lard to rape.

This right here shows the level of derangement that you have, almost more than anything else you have ever said. This is 100 a lie, and everyone without an agenda knows it. It used to be stay away from back streets and you were fine...now, it doesn't matter main street, and middle of day. They know they won't get more than a slap on the wrist.

The topic of this thread is The narrative about cities turning into shite holes. You cited the number of murders in NO in 2022, which was nearly half the number of murders NO saw in 1994 as evidence that New Orleans is turning into a shithole. I had to assume you believed there were significantly fewer murders in New Orleans in the decades leading up to 2022.

Again, WTF? I never said this.

Apologies. I confused you with someone else.

What neighborhood do you live in? Where did you live in the early oughts?

Or is this something you know by osmosis?

Doesn't NO have less than half the population after Katrina. 1994 was pre-Katrina.

Less than half? Goodness no.

In 1990 the population was 496,938

In 2022 the population was 369,917

Murder rate in 1994: 86 per 100,000

Murder rate in 2022: 70 per 100,000

Because I know for a fact it isn’t nonsense. I doubt St. Tammany is the only suburb that employs this practice.

Vagrancy is illegal. When you references vagrancy, I interpreted it to mean the legal concept of vagrancy.

These things aren’t happening in the vast majority of neighborhoods in New Orleans. Maybe in the French Quarter but I don’t really go there very often.

My neighbors would never let bad behavior fly here anyway. But it seems like people in suburbia are horrified at the thought of speaking to someone they view as inferior.

Is your argument to not use crime as a metric in the last 15 years as to a city going to shite because of a covid spike?
quote:

New Orleans has fluctuated in its national murder ranking over the past three decades, often being among the cities with the highest murder rates in the U.S. As of 2025, it ranks third in murder rates, following St. Louis and Baltimore, reflecting a significant historical trend of violence in the city.

Crime rate can be one of the deciding factors of where families settle down. Based on each city's murder and property crime rates per 100,000 people, determined by FBI crime reports, these are the most dangerous places to live in the United States.
