I think the bigger issue is that social media will expose the fact that the bulk of people on welfare are a spectacularly entitled class of permanent welfare recipients. It will also become clear that a majority of these people are perfectly capable of supporting themselves but choose not to.

You obviously don't understand systemic injustice.

Had a family member going through a rough spot a while back. Single mom of two and a shite ex. She got more money on food stamps than she could spend. Would buy steaks for everyone on weekends and still had more than she could spend on food. The system is broken. Oh, and she’s off assistance and doing well

Is this 42 million people get them? As in there are 42 million moms? Which pay for food for the entire home? Or is that 42 million total people benefit from them?

There's also a shite ton of food stamp fraud going on, Ive heard multiple stories of people gaming the system to get food stamps for multiple people not under their roof.

That is the thing that grinds my gears. You're on food stamps so what do you do? Have 3 more kids.

You should be booted from the govt dole for things like that. Can't take care of yourself yet you involve 3 more lives in your mess?

Controversial opinion: If you consent to being disabled to the point of subsisting entirely on welfare programs, you should be sterilized.

May have been a local thing, My office is on a university campus and there are food trucks that come by and park pretty much every day.

Some are elaborate but there are a couple that are pretty plain (no fancy wraps on the trucks, no website, etc.). One guy is here a lot and just does burgers and chicken - its pretty good. He told us last week he might not be here after the first if EBT is cut off because thats how he buys his meat to cook. Asked a couple of questions and he says thats how a lot of people do it.

Good question.

I have seen that the average food stamp per person per month is around $212. The math works for that given that people are reporting the food stamp budget to be $100 billion a year with around 42 million on them. Which would mean a family of 4 could be seeing, on average, $848 a month.

But people today often use "per person" and "per household" interchangeably.

If so, we will see a drastic decrease in grocery prices across the board.

No point in hating the player when everyone else is taking advantage of the system. If he doesnt, he falls behind. Hate the system.

That’s one way to look at it.

Another way to look at it is that if everyone refused to game the system, then it wouldn’t matter what the system is.

Guess which one you have direct control over?

The new one I learned about this week was the food trucks where EBT buys the ingredients and they make full profit.

Yep. This been going on for decades.

Use to always see tortas with a cart full of meat, shredded cheese, and a handful of Ebt cards buying stock for their taco truck.

I’m sure there are 1000’s of dead grandmas still receiving benefits 3 years after they are they took their past breath.

Prisoner's dilemma, bud.

You'll never have a functional society that is dependent on everyone picking the least optimal personal option.

You have to eliminate the game entirely, not hope everyone plays it group-optimally.

We had a long discussion about it and got the calculator out. Even one of the liberals in the office was pissed.

My wife and I watched that show "Shameless" a few years ago. It revolved around how a poor family got by and showed a lot of the scams. Almost every episode we looked at each other and said "people live like this?"

In one of the episodes, they brought a random old lady with Alzheimers to pose as their aunt, who they had been stealing social security checks for 10 years from.

Not all of the recipients "need" them.

Newsmax host @RobFinnertyUSA just said what no one in mainstream media will admit about SNAP.

He tore the mask off the entire food stamps program...and what he revealed will infuriate taxpayers.

It’s far worse than anyone realized.

“There are 42 million people in this country that need food stamps on a weekly basis.”

“And we’re saying ‘people’ deliberately instead of Americans because most of the people that are on food stamps aren’t even from this country.”

“45% of Afghanistan immigrants are on food stamps.”

“42% of Somali immigrants, 34% of every immigrant from Iraq, 23% of Haitians.”

“59% of ALL illegal aliens are collecting food stamps, meaning that most of the people getting food stamps from the U.S. Government and the U.S. Taxpayer are not even Americans.”

“Think about that.”

“And we didn’t know about any of this before the government shutdown started.”

“But thanks to Democrats, we can confirm tonight that millions of Joe Biden, illegal aliens, people who crossed the border when Joe was president, are now collecting food stamps from a program funded by hardworking American taxpayers.”

It does not matter where they are from. Hunger knows no borders. We should never look down our nose at anyone because it could be us instead of them. Some of these people are children.

Check out this shameful article headline from KPLC. Yeah, like this is because of Trump and Republicans, but the uninformed will see this and blame Trump.
