The french riots over carbon taxes should be a wake up call for some liberal policymakers

If a nation like France, whose political center is further to the left than America's center, melts down over carbon taxes causing higher prices, imagine the political fallout in America.
The fact is that it's easy to worry about global warming when you are talking abstractions. The minute you ask people to sacrifice material well being, things will get choppy.
AP: riots swell to over 110,000 people

The French are petulant children. They want progressive environmental policies but don't want to pay for them. frick em. They're getting exactly what they deserve and I hope it gets worse for them.

I read gas is $7 per gallon in Paris. It would cost $175 to fill up my truck

Really much more simple to subsidize fuel purchases and slowly decrease the amount subsidized over time.
Throw in some incentives to purchase electric vehicles too.
Ideally we would only tax businesses on their pollution/environmental impact and not on earnings

They only do empty gestures that involve no risk to themselves.

Agreed. Lithium mines are very environmentally friendly.
Agree with taxing businesses too. They’re not made up of people.

Meanwhile the repubs will waffle around, try to work with them and give more ground.
And we, the good guys, will stay home by the millions and take whatever is stuffed down our throats or up our asses.

Carbon taxes mainly hurt those with lower income. Why do the lIberals want to increase taxes on the poor?

That looks like a lot of carbon being produced into the atmosphere in that first picture.

And pray tell, what fuel is burned to make that electricity? Im curious most people dont ask that question. China has more electric cars than any country, they use coal to manufacture the electricity, and are BY FAR the worst polluter in the world, is that where we want to be????

Thankfully over the last few years china has began enforcing fairly stringent air and water quality protections
