If Rome had not engulfed so many men of alien blood in so brief a time,

if she had passed all these newcomers through her schools instead of her slums, if she had treated them as men with a hundred potential excellences,

if she had occasionally closed her gates to let assimilation catch up with infiltration,

she might have gained new racial and literary vitality from the infusion, and might have remained a Roman Rome, the voice and citadel of the West.

LOSS OF COMMON LANGUAGE

At first immigrants assimilated and learned the Latin language. They worked as servants with many rising to leadership.

But then they came so fast they did not learn Latin, but instead created a mix of Latin with their own Frankish, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, Germanic and Anglo tribal tongues.

The unity of the Roman Empire began to dissolve.

It used to take centuries for empires to fall.

The fall of Great Britain was within a human lifetime. If a person was born in England in 1890, the sun never set on the British Empire and you would grow up believing this is the way the world is as a fact. If you lived into your 90s, you would have seen the one time mightiest empire (having lost basically all of it's territories) engaged in a battle with Argentina over the Falkland Islands.

Now, if you were in Moscow in 1986 right before the Chernobyl disaster and said in 5 years the USSR will cease to exist as you know it today, they would have had you committed to an insane asylum, or sent to the gulag archipelago.

So when I say when the USA falls, it will be transformational in mere years from start to finish. Gradually, then suddenly.

The US was destined to fall once the Federal Reserve Act was passed in 1913. We had a pretty good run from 1950-2000 though.

There have been lots of prosperous and powerful civilizations who truly believed they were the end of history and eternal but so far they've all been wrong.

The problem is the people in power don’t care about the well being of the country, they’re hyper focused on filling their own bellies and that’s all they care about. Government is too big right now

Next summer will mark 250 years of predictions of America's imminent demise. We made it through a civil war and a great depression, but these darn "culture wars" and people arguing on the internet will mark our downfall!

There will always be drama queens, like the ones in this thread.

Take all of your generic bullet points and apply them to the 1960s.

2025 is the tea cup ride at Disney World compared to the late 1960s.

You really would have shite a brick in the 1960s.

People will blame civic virtue and not like 65% of all roman emperors
being murdered by their body guards and the next guy being whoever promised the body guards the most money and then a plague decimating the population when they needed soldiers.

Rome grossly devalued its currency in order to fund public social programs and a massive military.

Since 1400, the average lifespan of a Reserve Currency is about 100 years ……. Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, France, Britain, US have each been a Reserve Currency.

They all took on heavy Debt and devalued their currencies….all of them failed throughout history….. except for the Dollar, which has only been the Reserve Currency for 81 years and counting.

Spain shat the bed like no one else. Unlike others who started debasing their coinage (i.e. less gold content), Spain got fricked from importing too much gold from the new world
