The Iranian people now have an opportunity to replace with something else
A known group of the longest standing baddest guys is now dead
The desire of this known group of bad guys to obtain and use a weapon of mass destruction has been set back (more) decades
The other bad guys in the world are on notice that we know exactly where you are and what you’re doing. We can reach you wherever you are. And we will frick you (not your people just you) up if you mess with us
People like you are revealing yourselves for who you are, what you support, and the lengths you will go to to “resist” the best interests of our nation.
Goals accomplished

I thought about that considering it's the NYT that published this piece. They are kissing asses of their sources.

Both Houses of Congress gathered other than one lone Rep, Supreme Court and Joint Chiefs, plus all cabinet members. Jack Ryan in the White House just sworn in as President and now waiting for the convoy to the Capital for the public swearing in. Japanese 747 breaks approach and takes out the entire Federal Government. Ryan sees all from the White House. Chief Justices swore him in and arrived at the Capital in time to get killed.
Rebuilding the government is by the book. Governor’s name temporaries to fill the seats and game is on in the process.

In one satellite photo I saw that the Azerbaijan embassy was right on the corner of the square that was destroyed. It could not have been good for their diplomats, and they are an ally of Israel.
